High School Football

WACO will travel to Iowa Valley tomorrow, September 6th, at 7 pm for their first district game of the season.

Fairfield will stay at home to take on Fort Madison tomorrow at 7:30 pm.

Mt. Pleasant will have their home opener tomorrow against West Burlington/Notre Dame at 7:30 pm. KILJ 105.5 FM, kilj.com, will be on the call with the pregame show at 7:15 pm. 

Danville will travel to take on Highland tomorrow at 7 pm. 

New London will square off against Winfield-Mt. Union tomorrow at 7 pm on the road. 

Van Buren County will face off against Pekin tomorrow at 7 pm on the road. 

Central Lee will travel to Cardinal tomorrow at 7 pm.

Mediapolis will compete against Sigourney-Keota tomorrow at 7 pm at home.

Columbus will look to get back on track against Wapello tomorrow at 7 pm at home. 

High School Volleyball

Mt. Pleasant will host Albia tonight at 7 pm. Head coach Logan Wall discussed what her team was working on heading into tonight’s matchup,

“We were working on serving a lot. I thought our passing was pretty decent. Now we just gotta put it all together at the net and finish strong. We had a lot of errors at the net, so we got to work on some hitting and some blocking and some coverage, but you work on one thing and then something falls off, so it’s hard. It’s hard to balance.”

Mediapolis will travel to Washington tonight at 7 pm.

Winfield-Mt. Union will participate in a quad at Lisbon tonight.

Central Lee will square off against Keokuk tonight at 7:15 pm on the road. 

Van Buren County will participate in a tournament tonight at 4:30 pm at Pella Christian. 

WACO will face off against Cardinal tonight at 5:30 pm at WACO in the first game of a quad with New London and Fairfield making the trip.

Danville will compete in a tournament at Burlington Notre Dame on Saturday, September 7th.

Holy Trinity Catholic will look to right the ship on September 10th against Danville at 7:30 pm on the road. 

High School Cross Country

Van Buren County, Danville, New London, Mediapolis, and Fairfield will travel to Ottumwa to compete in a meet tonight at 5:30 pm. 

Mt. Pleasant, Burlington Notre Dame, Central Lee, Holy Trinity Catholic, and WACO will run at Elks Fairview Golf Course in Keokuk today at 4:30 pm.

Southeastern Community College

The volleyball team handled business against Southwestern Community College last night, winning in straight sets 25-7, 25-11, and 25-9. McKenna Marlow tallied 13 kills with a 0.423 efficiency percentage, while Maddie Jones and Taryn Havener each notched four service aces. The Blackhawks will stay on the road to take on Indian Hills Community College tonight at 7 pm.

College Football

#21 Iowa is set to host this year’s rendition of the Cy-Hawk Series on Saturday, September 7th, at 2:30 pm. The Iowa broadcast will be on 105.5 FM and the Iowa State broadcast will be on 98.5 FM and AM 1130. The Hawkeyes have won 8 of the past 10 matchups in the series.

1901 – National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues, better known as Minor League Baseball, is formed at the Leland Hotel in Chicago.

1906 – Saint Louis University quarterback Bradbury Robinson throws the first completed legal forward pass in the history of American football for a touchdown to Jack Schneider against Carroll College. Saint Louis went on to win 22-0.

1994 – San Francisco wide receiver Jerry Rice catches two touchdown passes and runs for another score in a 49ers’ 44-14 rout of the Raiders; surpasses Jim Brown as the NFL’s career touchdown leader with 127; eventually ends his career with 197 touchdowns.
