Girls’ Soccer: Nikes Stifle Mount Pleasant 

The Notre Dame West Burlington Nike girls’ soccer team scored three times, blanking Mount Pleasant in a 3-nil nonconference win in Burlington last night.

Addison Parrott, Amelia Schwenker and Lexi Mears were the goal scorers for the Nikes while their goalkeeper Ava Rashid made three saves.

Mount Pleasant had opportunities — Andrea Lopreato had two shots on goal, while Abby West had the other — but could not find the back of the net.

Ava Rashid made three saves for the Nikes.

Emma Pieper made 14 for Mount Pleasant.

The loss was Mount Pleasant’s second in a row, they’re now 8-2.

They’ll look to right the ship Thursday when they travel to Mediapolis.

That game is scheduled to kick at 4:30 p.m. at Mediapolis High School.

Notre Dame improved to 8-6.

Boys’ Soccer: No. 1 Nikes Roll Mount Pleasant:

The No. 1 ranked Burlington Notre Dame Nike boys’ soccer team scored seven second half goals en route to a 10-0 win over Mount Pleasant last night.

Sam Brueck and Cole Ward scored three times, while Gabe Zurita chipped in with two of his own.

Mount Pleasant was held shotless as Caden Murphy earned a clean sheet.

The loss was the Panthers’ fifth in a row, they’re now 2-12.

The Nikes improved to 17-1.

Mount Pleasant will lick their wounds and look to play spoiler in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs this this Thursday against Clear Creek-Amana.

Kick is slated for 6:30 p.m.

Girls’ Golf: Washington Claims SEC Crown:

The Mount Pleasant girls’ golf team finished as runners-up at yesterday’s Southeast Conference golf meet at Washingotn Golf and Country Club.

Washington’s Kiki Bruner was the meet medalist with a low-score of 78.

Teammates Makenna Conrad and Anna Nacos both carded 84’s while Kaylin Long finished with a 90 for the Demons.

Mount Pleasant senior Elli Liechty was an All-Tournament team selection after carding a 98 to lead the Panthers.

Sam Wibben finished second for Mount Pleasant with a 106, while Ryann Davidson carded a 108.

Fairfield finished in third followed up by Keokuk and Burlington in the team standings.

Girls’ Golf: New London Advances to Regional Final:

The New London girls’ golf team saw five of their players finish in the top-10 as they cruised to a win in a Class 1A regional at Deerwood Golf Club yesterday.

Taylor Phillips was the meet medalist carding a 90, while Sophie Malott added a 91.

Behind them were teammates Hannah Ortberg, Saige Barron and Izzy Nye.

New London finished with 400 strokes as a team, 65 better than that of second place Highland.

Natalie Wilcox of Danville was the third place finisher, shooting a 94 — with that she advances to the regional final at Knolls Country Club in New Sharon.

Winfield-Mount Union was paced by Isabel Kann, who finished with a 123.

College Golf: Former Mount Pleasant Standout Honored: 

Former Mount Pleasant standout Trace White was named to the All-Arrowhead Conference golf team, his institution announced over the weekend.

White, golfing now for Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg, Illinois, finished with a 391 season total, putting him ninth in the conference.

His low round of the spring was a 1-over-par 73 to place third at Kishwaukee.

Prep Football: Washington Names Former Central Lee Head Coach to Lead Their Program:

Former Central Lee head football coach Nick Ehret has a new home.

Last week, the Washington School Board approved Ehret as the next head coach of the Demons varsity football program — taking over for the great James Harris who left for the same position at Iowa City Liberty High School.

Ehret was the lead dog in Donnellson from 2017-2019, accumulating a 14-23 record in his time with the Hawks.

The Demons are coming of a season in which they went 8-1.

Central Lee finished last season 0-8.
