On May 19th, 2021, at approximately 12:32PM, the Henry County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 34 and Henry Jefferson Avenue. An investigation determined that Michael Furlong, 68, of Mount Pleasant was attempting to cross Highway 34 northbound in his 2010 Ford F-150 and did not see a blue 2011 Kia Soul, driven by Melissa Smith, 54, of Lockridge, approaching his location. The Smith vehicle struck the rear passenger side of the Furlong vehicle. Michael Furlong was issued a citation for Failure to Obey a Traffic Control Device. Minor injuries were reported. Assisting on scene was the Henry County Ambulance, the Iowa State Patrol, and Newberry’s Towing.
