Chad Wahls Announced as New Superintendent of Colo-NESCO and Collins-Maxwell Community School Districts July 1

A familiar name in southeast Iowa education is moving to a new leadership role. The Colo-NESCO and Collins-Maxwell Community School Districts have announced the hiring of Chad Wahls, who has served as superintendent of the New London Community School District since 2016, as their next shared superintendent. The two school boards made the announcement today, Friday, saying Wahls was selected following a search process that included input from school staff and community members in both districts.

During his 10 years leading New London schools, Wahls oversaw strategic planning, financial management, facility improvements, and student achievement initiatives. District officials say his experience includes managing a $7.5 million budget, leading long-term financial planning efforts, overseeing building renovation projects, and developing partnerships with neighboring school districts.

Collins-Maxwell Board President Jon Hand said Wahls was the overwhelming favorite among the finalists and praised his visibility in schools and leadership experience. Hand also noted that Wahls is seeking an opportunity closer to family in central Iowa.

Before becoming superintendent in New London, Wahls served in several administrative roles in the Postville Community School District, including principal, special education director, English language learner coordinator, and activities director. He also has experience as a classroom teacher and coach.

In a statement, Wahls said he is honored to have the opportunity to serve both districts and looks forward to building relationships with students, staff, and community members while helping each district build on its strengths.

Wahls will officially begin his new position as joint superintendent of the Colo-NESCO and Collins-Maxwell school districts on July 1
