A local effort is underway to help restock important supplies for two transitional housing shelters serving survivors in Des Moines and Lee Counties.
Community members are being asked to donate needed items to help provide a safe and comfortable environment for residents rebuilding their lives.
Donations can be dropped off at the YMCA in Burlington during regular operating hours. No appointment is needed. The YMCA is located at 2481 Mount Pleasant Street in Burlington.
Items currently needed include local gift and grocery store gift cards, bus tokens, new or gently used smart TVs for survivor bedrooms, and household supplies such as brooms, dust pans, mops, buckets, vacuums, fans, lamps, small trash cans, shower and window curtains, rods, and area rugs.
Organizers are also looking for twin, full, and queen bedding, mattress covers, kitchen supplies including can openers, coffee pots, toasters, hot pads, aluminum foil, and Ziploc bags, along with personal care items like razors and shaving cream, and cleaning supplies.
The YMCA is open Monday through Thursday from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.
