A Keokuk man is facing an aggravated misdemeanor charge following a domestic disturbance that prompted an emergency response Friday evening in Mount Pleasant.
According to court records, Henry County Dispatch received a 911 call at approximately 6:02 p.m. on July 17th. The female caller told dispatch that Ian Fifer was cutting himself with a knife while screaming at her. A short time later, she remained on the line and reported that Fifer was continuing to follow her as she walked away.
Henry County Deputies arrived in the 2400 block of Franklin Avenue and observed Fifer walking northbound while holding a knife. The deputy reported seeing blood on Fifer’s left forearm and ordered him to drop the knife, which he did.
During the investigation, Fifer admitted to holding the knife while yelling at the female and told deputies he intentionally cut himself in hopes it would convince her to stay with him after she threatened to end their relationship.
The female told deputies she left a residence on Franklin Avenue because she felt uncomfortable. She said Fifer followed her on foot, yelling about their relationship before pulling out the knife and cutting himself. She told investigators she feared he could use the knife against her after seeing him injure himself and was afraid to remain near him.
Fifer was treated for his injuries, released, and transported to the Henry County Jail. He has been charged with Assault While Displaying a Dangerous Weapon, an aggravated misdemeanor. As with all criminal cases, the charge is an allegation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
