Iowa Family Week
Starting back in 2021, the Iowa High School Athletic Association and the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union agreed to institute “Family Week” into the Iowa Unified Activity Federation calendar. This week prohibits any coach and/or teacher contact with student-athletes and prohibits any state sponsored events from occurring.
High School Baseball
Two local baseball players will be participating in the 2026 All Star Series with games scheduled for Friday, July 31st, and Saturday, August 1st. Landry Haberichter of Burlington Notre Dame and Fairfield’s Archer Kreuter will be a part of the Small Schools from the East.
The two graduates dominated for their respective teams, as Haberichter led the SEISC-South in home runs, RBIs, and stolen bases, while batting 0.429, while Kreuter led the conference in batting average, home runs, and RBIs. The duo will play against the Large West Schools on Friday morning at 10 am with a matchup against the Small West Schools for Saturday morning at 10:30 am at Kirkwood Community College.
High School Softball
The Iowa Girls Coaches Association released the All-State teams for all five classes.
In Class 1A, Sydney Jarvis of Holy Trinity Catholic made the 2nd Team, while Alivia Holmes was named Honorable Mention.
Class 2A placed Madelyn Thomas of West Burlington/Notre Dame on the 2nd Team. Ashlynn Huff of Van Buren County found a spot on the 3rd Team.
Washington’s Leighton Salazar claimed a spot on the First Team for Class 3A. Earning spots on the 2nd Team was Fairfield’s Leah Helmick, Payton Harris of Mediapolis, and the SEISC-South Player of the Year Kenna Sandoval for Central Lee. Lastly, Colbie Greiner of Washington made the 3rd Team.
For Class 4A, Burlington’s Kylee Hill, who was the SEC Player of the Year, was named to the 1st Team. Ava Fawcett and Ava Brandenburg claimed spots on the 2nd Team for the Grayhounds.
Local Athletic Camps
Wapello will be holding a youth football camp for students entering 3rd through 8th grade starting on August 3rd and running through the 6th from 4 to 5:30 pm. The camp will cost $25 and includes a t-shirt. If you have any questions, then email coach Tony Johnson at tony.johnson@wapellocsd.org.

New London will host their youth football camp from August 3rd through the 5th from 5 to 7 pm at the high school football field for 1st through 6th graders. The camp is free and participants can sign-up for a t-shirt on the first day of the camp.
Danville High School will be hosting the Soukup Basketball Camp August 7th, going from 5:30 to 8:30 pm, and August 8th and 9th from 2 to 5 pm for boys and girls entering 3rd through 8th grades. The camp will cost $60 per camper. The registration deadline to receive a t-shirt is tomorrow, July 26th.

The Burlington Bees will host the Quincy Doggy Paddlers tonight at 6:30 pm.
The Clinton LumberKings will start a road series against the Lafayette Aviators tonight at 6 pm.
