A Muscatine County Sheriff’s Deputy was shot during a chase Friday evening, and the suspect involved is still on the run, according to a Muscatine Police Department Press Release.
The incident began around 5:15 p.m., when the officer attempted to stop a vehicle driving recklessly. The driver failed to stop and continued through neighborhoods at a high rate of speed, then crashed the vehicle in the 1200 block of Grandview, and fled on foot, shooting at officers. Police said the officer who was hit was injured but in stable condition.
The suspect, identified as 59-year-old Mark Lee Jackson of Des Moines, is still at large and considered armed and dangerous. Jackson has active search warrants through Iowa State Corrections for a parole violation and through the Muscatine Police Department for Theft 2nd degree. Authorities asked people in the area last night to lock their doors and shelter in place.
