High School Girls’ Tennis
Fairfield will hit the road to play Keokuk tonight at 4:30 pm.
Burlington Notre Dame will travel to Camanche tonight at 4 pm.
Mt. Pleasant will compete against Burlington on Monday, August 31st, at 4:30 pm.
High School Volleyball
WACO will travel to Fairfield tonight for the “Steven Hisel” triangular at 5:45 pm.
Central Lee will travel to Fort Madison tonight at 7 pm.
Burlington will host a quad tonight with West Burlington, Wapello, and Danville competing at 5:30 pm.
Mt. Pleasant will face off against Davis County tonight at 7 pm on the road.
Winfield-Mt. Union will participate in the Albia Invitational on Saturday, August 29th.
Washington will compete at the Grinnell Invite on Saturday.
High School Football
Danville kicks off the season tomorrow, August 28th, at home against West Burlington/Notre Dame at 7 pm.
Mediapolis awaits Mt. Pleasant tomorrow with gametime at 7:30 pm. KILJ 105.5 FM, kilj.com, will be on the call with the pregame show at 7:15 pm. Bulldog head coach Brian Borrison explained what he wants to see from his team against the Panthers tomorrow,
“I’d like for us to play physical and limit the amount of mistakes that we make, you know, as best you can for week one, there’ll be plenty of weird things that’ll happen and conditioning is always questionable, at this point in time, so, you know, I just want us to play hard, play with great effort try to limit the amount of mistakes that we’re making… what jumps out at you is really how hard their kids play. So, if you’re going to show up and not match their intensity then, you know, it’s definitely gonna be a long night so, you know, that’s kind of what we’re focusing on and trying to, you know, get ourselves ready to go there…”
Fairfield will host Benton tomorrow at 7:30 pm.
Washington will take on Mid-Prairie at home at 7:30 pm tomorrow.
Central Lee will travel to Van Buren County tomorrow with gametime at 7 pm.
Wapello will start their season with a home matchup tomorrow against Louisa-Muscatine at 7 pm.
Columbus will head to BGM tomorrow at 7 pm.
Winfield-Mt. Union will welcome Easton Valley to town tomorrow at 7 pm.
WACO begins the year at home with a matchup against Central City at 7 pm tomorrow.
High School Cross Country
Danville will run at the Iowa City West Early Bird meet tonight.
Van Buren County will compete in Albia tonight.
Mt. Pleasant and Mediapolis will start the season at the Williamsburg Invitational on Tuesday, September 1st, at 4:30 pm. Panther boys’ head coach Mitch Anderson will be leaning on Silas Hulett to lead the squad as he attempts to make it back-to-back trips to the state meet,
“We’re so excited about how his career’s progressed. He had a solid sophomore campaign with some outside shots at state, but didn’t get that achieved. But then his junior year, as you mentioned, qualified for cross country for state and just like an avalanche, every season’s gotten better for him and he carried that momentum from the fall into the spring for track. He was one of our best two-milers of all time and was just a few spots out of medaling in the two miles. So, really excited how that momentum can now head into the fall.”
Southeastern Community College
The volleyball team defeated Iowa Lakes Community College last night in four sets. The Blackhawks will welcome Allen County Community College to town tomorrow, August 28th, at 2 pm.
The men’s soccer team escaped with a narrow, 2-1, victory over Southwestern Illinois College yesterday. Joshua Barboza and Tommaso Lorenzi each netted a goal in the winning effort. The Blackhawks will host Lincoln Trail College on Saturday, August 29th, with the men playing first at 2 pm followed by the women’s team at 4 pm.
