New London Man Charged Following Alleged Threats Against New London Community

A New London man faces two charges following separate incidents in Henry County.

Court records show Zackery Charles Franks, age 38, is charged with first-degree harassment, an aggravated misdemeanor, and making a false report in a 911 call, a simple misdemeanor.

According to a criminal complaint, Franks allegedly sent a family member a series of threatening text messages on August 19. Authorities say Franks threatened to combine large quantities of bleach and acetone in New London City Park in an effort to render people unconscious. He also allegedly threatened to create an explosion in New London using household chemicals.

Court documents say Franks also threatened members of his family and wrote that people would “end up paying” for not helping him. Authorities located Franks at his residence and took him to the Henry County Jail.

The false-report charge stems from an August 17 incident along Highway 218. Court documents allege Franks requested an ambulance but told a responding deputy he did not need medical assistance and instead wanted a ride to New London.

The charges are accusations, and Franks is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
