Teen Hospitalized Following Fiery Louisa County Rollover

One teenager was hospitalized following a fiery rollover crash near Wapello Thursday night.

Emergency crews were called to Highway 99 near 126th Avenue shortly before 11:40 p.m.

A 2013 Ford Fusion left the roadway, rolled, struck a tree and caught fire. The vehicle came to rest on its side in a ditch.

The two occupants, ages 18 and 15, escaped from the burning vehicle before emergency personnel arrived. One of the teenagers was transported to Great River Health in Burlington for treatment. Additional information about the injuries has not been released.

The vehicle caught fire again while being removed from the scene, but crews extinguished the flames without further problems.

The Louisa County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa State Patrol, Wapello Fire Department and Wapello Ambulance responded.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
