Marvin Mallams

Marvin Mallams, 91, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, passed away Friday, June 26, 2020, at Great River Klein Center in West Burlington.

According to his wishes, Marvin has been cremated.  A memorial service, with military rites will be held in the future, tentatively in August.  Inurnment will be in Forest Home Cemetery.  Gifts of love and friendship may be given to Shriner’s Children’s Hospital, Wesley Chapel, or Fellowship Cup.  Olson~Powell Memorial Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.  On-line condolences may be directed to www.olsonpowell.com.

KILJ Sports Director Recognized

KILJ Radio is pleased and proud to announce that Sports Director Nathan Bloechl was honored Saturday night by the Iowa Broadcast News Association. Bloechl received first place in Play-by-Play coverage in Small Market Radio. The award was presented during the IBNA annual convention held this weekend in Pella.  Congratulations Nathan!

Two Injured in Crash Near New London

Two people were injured Wednesday in a single vehicle accident near New London.  Hallie Renshaw of Burlington was driving north on Racine Avenue near the intersection of 250th Street at about 8:30 pm. Her vehicle went onto the shoulder and Renshaw over-corrected causing the vehicle to enter the ditch where it came to rest on the passenger side and then caught fire. Renshaw was not injured but two passengers were.  Kyiah Hill of West Burlington airlifted to University Hospitals in Iowa City.  Mariska Malloy of Middletown was transported to HCHC by ambulance. Renshaw was cited for failure to maintain control.

Truck/Semi Collision

Wednesday afternoon emergency crews were called to the intersection of 235th Street and Franklin Avenue west of Mount Pleasant truck-semi collision. Lloyd Bank of Salem was driving a pick-up truck and stopped at the stop sign at the intersection. Bank then attempted to turn west but failed to yield to a semi driven by Doren Walker of Kalona. Walker swerved to avoid a collision but struck the pickup in the rear on the driver’s side.  Bank complained of a possible injury and was transported from the scene by private vehicle. The semi driver was uninjured. Bank was cited for failure to stop at a stop sign and failure to yield the right away.

Accident Investigation

After a week long investigation, the Iowa State Patrol has released the details of a single vehicle accident that occurred Friday, 6/19/20 near the intersection of Franklin Avenue and 235th Street. Two people were injured when the vehicle went off the road, rolling three times.  The driver, Harley Carle, over-corrected when the vehicle crossed the center line, sending it into the ditch.  Both the driver and the passenger, Tabian Waddle, were ejected.  Both were transported by air to University Hospitals in Iowa City where they are recovering.  Carle is charged with failure to maintain control.

OT Looking Forward to 2021 Reunion!

With the announcement Wednesday that the 2020 Old Threshers Reunion would not take place, the Association’s board and the Old Threshers staff are already working on the 2021 Reunion September 2 thru 6.  Administrator Terry McWilliams had the difficult task of making the announcement after the board met and voted to cancel this year’s Reunion. But he put a positive light on the sad news by encouraging everyone to gather again in 2021.  All  four KILJ stage entertainers have committed to perform next year…Lori Morgan, Carly Pierce,Craig Morgan and Rodney Atkins.  All the featured items like the steam engine, car, tractor and horse will be featured next year.  The girls who signed up for Sweet 16 this year can be part of a special Sweet 17 program next year and the Harvest Parade Grand Marshalls John and Susie Kuhens have agreed to lead the parade in 2021

Two Injured in Crash Near New London

Two people were injured in a single vehicle accident that occurred Wednesday night near New London.  The names of the injured have not yet been released.  One person was taken by air to University Hospitals in Iowa City. The other person was transported to the Henry County Health Center by ambulance.  So far the Iowa State Patrol has determined a vehicle was northbound in the 2500 block of Racine Avenue at about 8:30 pm.  The vehicle went off the edge of the road. The driver over-corrected sending the vehicle off the road and into the ditch where it came to rest on the passenger side before catching fire.

Robert “Skip” Odle, Jr.

Robert “Skip” Odle, Jr., 94, of Burlington, passed away on Tuesday, June 24, 2020, at the Klein Center in Burlington.  Visitation will be held on Monday, June 29, 2020, from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. at the Snyder and Hollenbaugh Funeral and Cremation Services in Wapello.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 29, 2020, at the funeral home.  Burial will be in the Wapello Cemetery.  A memorial fund has been established at the funeral home in memory of Skip.  Sympathy notes may be left for the family at www.sandhfuneralservice.com.

Robert Ernest Odle, Jr., was born on March 13, 1926, in rural Wapello, Iowa the son of Robert Ernest Odle Sr., and Myrtle Hartsock Odle.  He was a 1946 graduate of Grandview High School.  On October 27, 1946, Skip was united in marriage to Beverly Gipple in Grandview and later divorced.  Skip worked at Case in Burlington, G.P.C. and Mills Auto Parts in Muscatine.  He enjoyed gardening, boating, fishing and socializing with friends.

Skip will be deeply missed by his children, E. Annette Colton of Coralville and Carol (Fred) Peterson of Burlington; three grandchildren, Bryan (JaNan) Peterson of Burlington, Heather Ann (Chris) Lockhart of Greensboro, South Carolina and Darin Lyle (Denise) Shafer of Pearcy, Arkansas four great grandchildren, Jaxon, Jayson, Nikki and Tiffany; three great-great grandchildren, Matie, Braeden and Kelsey and one sister, Charmain Jones of Phoenix, Arizona.

Skip was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Hilton, Donald and Charles; two sisters, Kathlyn Hall and Hilda “Sis” Schwob and special friend, Dorothy Grosjean.
