Burlington Man Behind Bars After Beating and Bruising Mother of his Children

Just after 10am on December 5th, Burlington Police Officers were sent to 207 S. 8th Street regarding a domestic disturbance. Officers found a female there bleeding from her mouth. The woman told officers she had been involved in an argument with Derrick Phillips, the father of her two children.

She said Phillips had assaulted her by throwing her on the floor and putting her foot on her so she couldn’t get up. She said she hit Phillips with a side table and the table broke. Phillips then struck her in the arm with a leg from the broken table and then punched her in the mouth. The female had swollen, bloody lips and bruising on her arm.

When the officers arrived at the residence, a male, later identified as Derrick Phillips, ran out of the back of the house. Officers pursued him to the 200-block of South 9th Street where he was taken into custody. He provided officers with a fake name at that time.

Derrick Phillips, 25, was charged with Aggravated Domestic Abuse Assault, Providing False ID Information, and Interference With Official Acts. Phillips was also charged with out of state warrants for Escape From Custody and Possession Of A Firearm By A Felon.
