A Keosauqua man is facing a domestic abuse charge following an incident early Sunday morning in Van Buren County.
29 year old Nathaniel Wright has been charged with first-offense domestic abuse assault, a simple misdemeanor.
According to court documents, deputies were called to a shared residence around 12:20 a.m. after a verbal argument reportedly escalated. Investigators say a family member entered a room and observed Wright with his hand around the victim’s neck before stepping in and separating the two individuals.
Deputies determined Wright was the primary aggressor and took him into custody outside the residence.
Wright was transported to the Van Buren County Jail and later released on his own recognizance. A no-contact order has been requested, and a pretrial conference is scheduled for July 23.
A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and all defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
