MP School Board Meeting to Consider Updated COVID Guidance

In light of updated guidance from the Iowa Department of Public Health and the Iowa Department of Human Services, the Mount Pleasant School Board will meet in special session Monday to review and consider revisions to the district’s return to learn plan.  The guidance on COVID-19 mitigation deals with masking and quarantining for schools and childcare centers. According to the new guidance, the IDPH is now recommending that while COVID-19 positive and symptomatic children should be excluded, exposed children should no longer be required to stay home, regardless of mask usage. The new guidance advises that parents should be given information around exposure to COVID-19 in order to make their own informed decisions regarding risk. Schools and child care settings are being urged to provide parents and students with the option to make their own decision about mask usage. The Mount Pleasant board was already considering a change to masks optional for summer school and possibly next fall. Monday’s special meeting will be held at 4 pm in the High School media center.
