MPPD Responds to Two Vehicle Accident Sunday Evening

Yesterday evening, just after 6:00pm, the Mount Pleasant Police Department responded to the intersection of South Grand Avenue and East Washington Street for a report of a two-vehicle accident.

Upon investigation, it was determined that a Ford Focus operated by Peter Abell of Burlington, Iowa, was traveling westbound on East Washington Street. Upon approaching the intersection of South Grand Avenue Street and East Washington Street, the vehicle failed to obey the stop sign and continued through the intersection without stopping, causing a broadside collision with a Honda Odyssey that was operated by Carrie Arnold of Mount Pleasant, who was traveling northbound on South Grand Avenue.

Both vehicles are considered to be a total loss. Both subjects were assessed and released on scene by the Henry County ambulance crew. As a result of this investigation, Peter Abell was cited for failure to obey stop sign and yield right of way. The Mt. Pleasant Police Department was assisted by the Mt. Pleasant Fire Department, the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, the Henry County Ambulance, and Breuer’s towing and recovery.
