Iowa’s Unemployment Rate Increases to 3.0 Percent in October according to Iowa Workforce Development.  Job cuts in manufacturing and construction significantly contributed to unemployment rates; however, with the election over, officials expect employers’ prior hesitation to dissipate.  There are 52,000 jobs posted on iowaworks.gov.

Things like machinery and transportation costs also prompted much of the loss of employment.   The number of unemployed Iowans increased to 51,000 in October from 49,400 in September.

The City of Mt. Pleasant has announced free leaf collection for next week.  On Monday, November 18, 2024, leaves will be collected on the South Side of Washington Street.  On Tuesday, November 19^th, leaves will be collected on the North Side of Washington Street.

There are a couple of meetings of note for next week.  The New London Community School District is meeting in regular session on Monday, November 18^th at 6pm.  The meeting will be held in the boardroom of the North Campus.  This meeting is open to the public.

Danville’s City Council will meet in regular session on Monday, November 18^th at 5pm in city hall.  Items on the agenda include the Des Moines County Sheriff’s report and a review from the SE Iowa Regional Planning Commission.  This meeting is open to the public.

The Henry County Soil & Water Conservation District Commissioners will hold their monthly meeting on Tuesday, November 19^th at 3:30pm at the USDA office, 709 S. Iris Street in Mt. Pleasant.  Items on the agenda include watershed report and cost share payments.  This meeting is open to the public.

The City of Mount Pleasant FREE LEAF COLLECTION is scheduled for November 18th & November 19th.

The Board of Supervisors room was full for their weekly update, November 14^th. Caleb Waters, with the Henry county Conservation Departments was present to give his Monthly Update to the board. In the update from the Conservation department, Caleb presented a detailed proposal for a Dump Site In Henry County. The conservation is also working on some grant writing for the year 2025.

Jeff Buffington with Planning and Zoning gave an update on a few new residential addresses being added to the county registry. Jeff also mentioned the number of Land Lines being down, from 4,839 this time last year, to 4,471 current land line phones.

The Board of Supervisors had the 3^rd and final reading to repeal Title IV (6) Chapter 4, the operation of ATV/UTV on certain Count Roads. This was opened for public hearing, where the room discussed this very little. Public Hearing was closed and the Board Ruled to Approve the Repeal of Title IV (6) Chapter 4, the operation of ATV/UTV on certain Count Roads. The Board of Supervisors recognize that the Iowa state law in this matter will overrule any county or city law regarding ATV/UTV.

The Henry County Board of Supervisors meet every Thursday at 9am, in the Board of Supervisors Room, Located at the Henry County Court House. These Meetings are open to the public.

The Winfield Lions are hosting their annual Free Will Offering Thanksgiving Dinner on Thanksgiving Day, from 11:30a -1p at the Winfield Presbyterian Church.  This is an eat-in dinner by reservation only.
