Des Moines, IA- Day two of the 2025 Iowa Boys’ High School State Wrestling Tournament is in the books with the semifinals set for Class 2A. Here’s a look at how our local wrestlers competed.
Burlington Notre Dame
106-Pound
#6 Kohen Dietzenbach advanced past #21 Andy Nuno of Bishop Heelan due to forfeit. This set up a matchup against #14 Brennan Jacobs of Greene County and the Nike pulled out the win by a 13-10 decision. Dietzenbach will compete against #7 Tyson Dewall of Spirit Lake Park in the consolation bracket Friday, February 21st.
113-Pound
#8 Rowan Berndt fell to #1 Urijah Courter of West Marshall by a 4-0 decision in the quarterfinals. The Nike will wrestle #12 Hunter Campion of Anamosa in the consolation bracket.
120-Pound
In the quarterfinals, #6 Colt Boyles fell to #3 Easton Enyeart by a 4-1 decision. Boyles will face off against #18 Gabriel Schnerre of Assumption in the consolation bracket.
126-Pound
The first Nike of the day to punch his ticket to the semifinals was #2 CJ Davis as he handled business against #7 Jayce Curry of Sergeant Bluff-Luton, earning an 8-1 decision win. Davis will compete against #3 Emmitt Newton of Davis County for a chance at the championship title.
132-Pound
#20 Jared Glendening was eliminated by #19 CJ McGregor of Algona in the consolation bracket. Glendening finished the year with a 40-15 record.
138-Pound
#2 Kaiden Dietzenbach pinned #7 Layton Yage of Estherville Lincoln Central to advance to the semifinals. He will take on #3 Logan McDonald of Grinnell with the winner to advance to the championship match.
150-Pound
Lunging for the upset, #7 Kael Cook competed against #2 Mikey Ryan of Mt. Vernon, but the Mustang kept the Nike at arms-length, winning by a 4-1 decision. Cook will wrestle #14 Brady Patterson of Benton in the consolation bracket.
157-Pound
On his journey toward third-place, #7 Dirk Boyles pulled off a win by technical fall by #23 Chayton Snethen of Harlan Community. Boyles advance to take on #18 William Goodlove of Mt. Vernon and collected another victory by technical fall. He will compete against Fairfield’s #3 Cason Miller.
165-Pound
#5 Blake Wilson was sent to the consolation bracket by #4 William Fullhart of Decorah after losing by major decision in the quarterfinals. #15 Ryland Morgan of Clarion-Goldfield-Dows will await his matchup in the consolation bracket.
175-Pound
In a southeast Iowa showdown, #23 Joey Glendening took on Fairfield’s #6 Dain Burkhart and was eliminated by the Trojan by an 11-5 decision. He ended the season with a 32-19 record.
190-Pound
In the consolation bracket, #21 Bridge Anderson fell to #22 Jayme Van Wyhe of Central Lyon/George-Little Rock by a 9-3 decision. Anderson finished the season with a 32-14 record.
Fairfield
113-Pound
The junior #2 Cael McCabe shutout #7 Kolbe Hansen of Iowa Falls-Alden in the quarterfinals with a victory by technical fall after not allowing a single point. McCabe will face off against #6 Simon Bettis of Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont with the winner advancing to the championship match.
144-Pound
#19 Zandrik Allison lost to #20 Andrew Tjaden of Anamosa in the consolation bracket ending his tournament run. The Trojan ended his sophomore season with a 37-16 record.
157-Pound
#3 Cason Miller was upset by #6 Tucker Wheeler of PCM in the quarterfinal round in a 4-1 decision final. He will take on Boyles of Burlington Notre Dame in the consolation bracket.
175-Pound
Following #6 Dain Burkhart’s win over Glendening, Burkhart picked up another 4-2 decision win over #15 Landon Halverson of Humboldt. Burkhart will compete against #5 Charlie Campbell of Clarion-Goldfield-Dows in his quest for third place.
215-Pound
In a high scoring affair, #6 Dre Smithburg lost on a 15-8 decision against #3 Lucas Feuerbach of Solon in the quarterfinals. He will wrestle #10 Carson Grier of Williamsburg in the consolation bracket.
285-Pound
#20 Alex Hudson was pinned by #14 Layne Kleppe of North Fayette Valley in the consolation bracket. Hudson ended the year with a 5-5 record.
Keokuk
106-Pound
#12 Ryan Rose started off his battle through the consolation bracket with a win by major decision over #22 Teague Alesch of Algona. However, #4 Kline Kiburz of Winterset ended Rose’s day with a victory by major decision. The freshman collected a 44-11 record for the year.
Mediapolis
150-Pound
#21 Mason Johnson pulled off a quick pin of #11 Lane Gudenkauf in his first consolation bracket matchup. Unfortunately, his tournament was ended by #14 Brady Patterson of Benton as he executed a win by fall.
He finished the season with a 37-18 record.
157-Pound
In #17 Peyton Johnson lost to #18 Will Goodlove of Mt. Vernon in a narrow 9-6 decision finish. The Bulldog collected a 32-8 record for the season.
175-Pound
#4 Kyler Crow keeps winning as he snuck past #5 Charlie Campbell of Clarion-Goldfield-Dows by a 9-8 decision. In a battle of the unbeatens, Crow will wrestle #1 Zayvion Ellington of Sergeant-Bluff-Luton with the winner moving on to the championship match.
Washington
132-Pound
In a shocker, #2 Aaron Boone lost to #7 Carter Cajthaml of NH/TV in the quarterfinals by a 10-6 decision. The Demon will take on #6 Charlie Showalter of Hampton-Dumont-CAL in the consolation bracket.
