Prep Football: It’s Officially Playoff Football All Across Iowa and Here’s the Matchups for October 28th

IHSAA- The regular season for Class 3A, Class 4A, and Class 5A have officially come to end as of last night, meaning that playoff football has officially taken over Iowa. 8-Player, Class A, Class 1A, and Class 2A will be moving into the second round of postseason action. Here’s a look at some of our local teams.

8-Player

#1 Winfield-Mt. Union and #10 WACO have been placed into Pod A, but they will both have to win their second round matchup to face off against one another.

The Warriors have the tough assignment of driving up to play #7 Don Bosco, whose only loss of the season came against #6 Gladbrook-Reinbeck to begin the season. The Dons have won four state championships, but have not made it back to the UNI-Dome since 2020.

The Wolves will tango with Moravia, who comes into the contest having beat Lone Tree 45-33 in their first round matchup. The Mohawks have a high-octane offense that accounts for 51 points per game. Winfield-Mt. Union has them beat with six games scoring 60 or more points compared to Moravia’s three.

Both games will be covered by KILJ, with Winfield-Mt. Union on 1130 AM, 98.5 FM, and kilj.com and WACO on 105.5 FM and kilj.com.

Iowa Valley, another District 6 team, will travel to take on undefeated Clarksville in Pod D. Gladbrook-Reinbeck and Central City will rumble in an entertaining matchup.

Class 2A

#10 Mediapolis will get another home game as the Bulldogs will host Camanche in Pod D. Looking at similar opponents, Camanche defeated Anamosa by 15 points, while the Bulldogs snuck past Anamosa last Friday 28-21. Both teams handled West Burlington-Notre Dame with the Bulldogs winning 50-18 and the Storm winning 42-14.

The other matchup in Pod D is Jesup traveling to take on #4 Monticello.

Class 3A

District 4 produced three playoff teams in Fort Madison, Assumption, and last year’s runner-up Mt. Vernon.

In Pod B, The Bloodhounds will have the tough task of taking on #2 Solon, according to RPI. The Spartans have taken down top dogs in Williamsburg and Mt. Vernon on their way to an 8-1 campaign. Assumption will also hit the road to take on West Delaware. Assumption is Solon’s lone loss.

In Pod C, Mt. Vernon will host Independence and Humboldt will travel to face off against Williamsburg.
