Prep Track and Field: Boys and Girls State Qualifiers for Classes 3A and 4A

State Track and Field- The state qualifying meets are in the books and the tentative list of qualifiers has been released for the upcoming 2024 Iowa High School State Track and Field Championships. Here’s a look at our local qualifiers for Classes 3A and 4A.

Boys Class 3A

Mt. Pleasant

The Panthers will be watching early Friday morning in the field events for Avin Truong. His leap of 21 feet and 7 inches has him ranked sixth heading into the meet.

Fort Madison

The Bloodhounds will be plenty busy with 14 qualifiers, the most in the Southeast Conference. Julian Dear will be sprinting in the 100 and 200-meter dashes. Mason McLey will compete in the 400-meter dash.

Henry Wiseman and Kiawante Smith will participate in the 110-meter hurdles. Kenden Bowie will battle it out in the high jump with a height mark of 6 feet and 3 inches.

Brandon Klein of Fort Madison and Josh Anderson of Washington will compete in the 100, 200, and 400-meter dashes along with the shot put in the wheelchair program.

The Bloodhounds will have four relays competing. Adam Sobczak, Dayton Lamar, Hayden Segoviano, and Dear will run in the 4×100 meter relay. Peyton Lambert, Riley Tripp, McLey, and Nolan Guzman will compete in the 4×800 meter relay.

Segoviano, Dear, Lambert, and Guzman will team up for the distance medley and Sobczak, Gavin Callahan, Smith, and Wiseman will participate in the 4×110 meter shuttle hurdle.

Keokuk

The Chiefs will have five qualifiers with Drew Campbell sprinting in the 100-meter dash. Ryan Bair running in the 200-meter dash. Mason Claus running and jumping in the 110-meter hurdles and 400-meter hurdles.

Lastly, the team of Travarius Smith, Lucas Swainey, Bair, and Campbell will participate in the 4×200 meter relay.

Washington

The Demons will also be busy with Seth Shepard galloping in the 400-meter dash. Micah Rees will wrap up his high school career with runs in the 1600 and 3200. Andrew Rees will join Micah in the 3200.

The team of Keider Gomez Valdez, Kael Williams, Jayfred Espinosa, and Alec Ulin was an at-large bid for the 4×100 meter relay. Logan McDole, Tyler Alderton, Sawyer Tschantz, and Micah Rees will compete in the 4×800 meter relay. Valdez, Williams, Ulin, and Micah Rees will participate in the distance medley.

Lastly, Greyson Hartman will toss the shot put as just one of three freshmen to qualify for state.

Fairfield

The Trojans will have four qualifiers with three coming via at-large bids. Gabe Tejada will pace himself in the 800-meter run. Eli Zillman enters as the favorite to win the high jump as sophomore with a height of 6 feet and 6 inches. Ryan Giberson will also compete in the high jump.

Lastly, the team of Aiden Krueter, Ousman Saine, Tallon Bates, and Tejada will run in the 800-sprint medley.

Girls Class 3A

Mt. Pleasant

The Panthers will have 10 members competing with Alex Scott running in the 100-meter dash. Kynlee White grabbed an at-large bid for the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.49 seconds. Josie Gilmore also got an at-large bid in the high jump with a height of 4 feet and 10 inches.

Bailey Jalas grabbed a spot in the long jump with a leap of 16 feet and 6 inches. The Panthers will have two throwers competing in the discus in Kya Goodrich and Savannah Slobodnik and one in the shot put in Ella Ensminger.

Courtney Raub, Jalas, White, and Alex Scott will compete in the 800-sprint medley. Kiyah Sanders, White, Alex and Andi Scott will team up for the 4×200 meter relay. Lastly, the 4×100-meter relay team of White, Jalas, and Andi and Alex Scott enter with the sixth best time.

Fort Madison

Long distance is the strength of the Bloodhounds with Mara Smith entering as a top-five seed in the 800-meter run. Avery Rump competing in the 1500 and 3000-meter runs. Moreover, the team of Lillian Gelsthorpe, Olivia Buckner, Smith, and Rump will compete in the distance medley.

Brylie Lorence will be busy throwing heavy things, participating in the shot put and discus.

Lastly, the team of McKayla Schinstock, Smith, Avery Rump, and Addison Rump will run in the 4×800 meter relay.

Keokuk

The lone state qualifier for the Chiefs was Camryn Atterberg as she claimed a spot in the 400-meter dash.

Washington

The Demons will also provide some competition in the long-distance events with Iris Dahl running in the 800-meter run and the 1500-meter. Leighton Messinger will participate in the 100-meter and 400-meter hurdles. Ryen Pepper will join the race in the 400-meter hurdles.

Pepper, Leighton Salazar, Kendall Hinrichsen, and Messinger will team up to run the 4×100 meter shuttle hurdle. The 4×100 meter relay team will consist of Ada Kendall, Messinger, Salazar, and Jaedyn Moore. Lauren Horak, Abigail Kleese, Hinrichsen, and Dahl will run the 4×800 meter relay and Kendall, Eden Levetzow, Moore, and Dahl will participate in the distance medley.

Salazar will also be leaping in the long jump for the Demons, grabbing an at-large bid.

Fairfield

The Trojans will have five qualifiers competing. Carley Seeley will test her endurance in the 3000-meter run. Lilly Bergren will compete in the 100-meter and 400-meter hurdles.

The team of Maya Lane, Bergren, Isabel McCready, and Hayley Reinier will run in the 4×100 meter shuttle hurdle.

Lastly, Elyse Setterstrom will heave the discus.

Boys’ Class 4A

Burlington

Burlington will compete in seven events. Laderrias Shealey will sprint in the 200-meter dash. Joey Jolin will run in the 400-meter dash. Salomon Cordero will compete in the 110-meter hurdles. In the field, Keshawn Wyldon will look for a state championship in the long jump with the second-best mark of 22 feet and 4 inches.

The Grayhounds will have the team of Braxton Carlson, CJ Owens, John Phillips, and Cordero run in the 4×110 meter shuttle hurdle. Derrick Watson, Wyldon, Kamryn Reynolds, and Shealey will compete in the 4×200 meter relay. Darius Shealey will jump in for Reynolds to run the 4×100 meter relay.

Girls Class 4A

Burlington

Burlington could have a freshman grab two state championships by Saturday’s end as Kylee Hill ranks in the top four in the discus—just six feet behind Delilah Subsin of Ottumwa—and has the top mark in the shot put with a distance of 46 feet.

Mylee Stiefel and Shariah Hart will sprint in the 100-meter dash. The team of Kierah Wiseman, Hart, Steifel, and Sophie Brown will compete in the 4×100 and 4×200 meter relays. Lastly, Meilah Ertz will jump in for Sophie Brown to run the 800-sprint medley.

Lilian Mennen will compete in the high jump for the Grayhounds as she enters with a mark of 5 feet.
