Prep Volleyball: Notre Dame Showing Why They’re Most Feared, Other Area Finals

No. 1 Notre Dame 3, No. 9 New London 0 

For the second time this week, top-ranked Notre Dame showed why they’re one of the state’s best, earning a 3-nil sweep victory over ninth-ranked New London yesterday at Father Minnett Gymnasium in Burlington.

The Nikes got their offense going fast, and they’re defense suffocated the Tiger attack en route to 25-18, 25-16 and 25-10 wins.

Gabby Deery, who is playing at an all-state level, pounded out 18 kills, while Joise Bentz added 11.

Jenna Bentz recorded 33 assists.

The win improved the defending state champions to 20-6 and 5-0 in Super Conference play.

New London dipped to 5-6, they’re now 2-1 in Super Conference action.

Winfield-Mount Union 3, Highland 0 

Bradie Buffington had 11 kills to pace Winfield-Mount Union to a sweep of Highland yesterday.

Keetyn Townsley also chipped in with double digit kills as the Wolves rolled.

Keely Malone filled the stat sheet with 28 assists, six kills and two aces.

Winfield-Mount Union, now 10-4 and 3-1 in conference play, will participate in the always competitive Holy Trinity tournament Monday evening.

WACO 3, Danville 1 

It was a happy homecoming for the Warriors as WACO took down Danville in four sets last night.

Ellah Kissell and Grace Coble spearheaded the win with nine kills apiece for the Warriors.

Coble also had 22 assists.

The win evened WACO’s ledger at 6-6, while Danville slipped to 2-6 .

WACO will have today off before traveling to Eldon tomorrow for the Cardinal Tournament.
