High School Basketball

The Mt. Pleasant/Burlington conference matchup scheduled for tonight has been postponed. The boys’ game will be made up on January 30th and the girls’ will play on February 8th. Times to be announced later. 

The WACO girls’ team fell to Iowa Valley last night 57-35. The WACO/Wapello matchup scheduled for tonight has been postponed until Monday, January 15th.

Winfield-Mt. Union swept Louisa-Muscatine last night with the girls’ team riding a strong third quarter performance to a thrilling 41-37 win, while the boys dominated, taking the game with a final score of 95-48. Madisen Kellogg logged a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds in the girls’ game. The boys had four players finish in double figures with Cam Buffington and Abram Edwards each cashing in for 25 points as Edwards also grabbed 13 rebounds. Jake Edwards scored 20 points with Gabriel Hemsworth finishing with 15 points and eight assists. The Winfield-Mt. Union/Pekin games scheduled for tonight has been postponed until Thursday, January 18th. The JV boys will play at 4:30 pm with the varsity to follow. There will be no JV girls’ game.

The Van Buren County girls’ team handled business last night against New London, taking down the Tigers 60-37. Marlee Mertens led the Warriors with 22 points as she buried six threes on the night. The Van Buren County/Burlington Notre Dame games scheduled for tonight have been canceled. 

Central Lee/New London basketball games for tonight have been canceled.

The Danville versus Mediapolis matchup scheduled for tonight has been postponed. A make up date will be announced at a later time.

Holy Trinity Catholic versus West Burlington has been postponed for tonight. The game will be made up on January 18th. 

High School Wrestling

The Columbus/Winfield-Mt. Union boys’ team hosted WACO and New London in a triangular last night with Columbus/Winfield-Mt. Union taking down WACO, 70-12, and New London, 66-15, while WACO defeated New London in their head-to-head matchup, 52-18. 

In the Tigers’ matchup against the Warriors it was Killian Kelly, Gavin Menke-Bailey, and Michael Raines winning their matches by fall. For WACO, Gage Samo won by major decision over Kane Forseen, while John McLaughlin won his matchup by fall. 

In Columbus/Winfield-Mt. Union’s match against New London, Bowen Thomson and Trevor Phillips both picked up wins by fall. Gavin Menke-Bailey and Kohlby Newsom had an entertaining match, resulting in a sudden victory for New London. Kane Forseen and Michael Raines also picked up wins by fall.

WACO had Louden Huisenga and Gage Samo win their matches by fall in their matchup against Columbus/Winfield-Mt. Union. The Wildcats saw Bowen Thomson, Kohlby Newsom, Cael Phillips, Trevor Phillips, Cole Storm, Kason Dopler, Cooper Buffington, Russel Coil, Dakota Aney, and Ty Scorpil win by fall. Sheaden Adams won by major decision to capture four points. 

The WACO Warrior Invitational scheduled for tomorrow, January 13th, has been postponed and moved to Monday, January 15th.

The Mt. Pleasant boys’ team battled Washington in a conference dual last night, but it was the Demons getting the upper hand and winning the match 45-30. Picking up wins for the Panthers by fall was Jefferson Ramirez Avalos, Tucker French, Payton Walker, Juan Lopez, and Landon Beckler. The closest match of the night went to Greyson Hartman of Washington as he bested William Birdsell by an 8-6 decision. 

The Mt. Pleasant and Columbus/Winfield-Mt. Union boys’ teams will participate in a tournament tomorrow at Centerville. 

The Mt. Pleasant girls’ team will compete in a dual against Fairfield on January 18th. 

The Columbus/Winfield-Mt. Union girls’ team will participate in a tournament hosted by Louisa-Muscatine on January 20th.

The WACO girls’ wrestling meet at Mid-Prairie tomorrow has been postponed and moved to Monday, January 15th.

High School Bowling

Mt. Pleasant will host Fairfield on January 18th. 

College Basketball

The #3 Iowa women’s team and #14 Indiana will face off in a top-25 matchup tomorrow, January 13th, at 7 pm in Iowa City. 

The Iowa State women’s team will host #4 Baylor tomorrow at noon. 

The Iowa State men’s team will host Oklahoma State tomorrow at 5 pm. 

The Iowa men’s team will play at home tonight against Nebraska at 8:30 pm.
