High School Basketball
The New London girls’ team lost to Moravia last night 59-37. Mylee Miller cashed in for 18 points and blocked six shots for the Tigers. Burlington Notre Dame will host New London tonight with the doubleheader starting at 6 pm.
Fairfield finished 1-1 against Pekin with the girls’ team losing 46-41 and the boys’ team picking up the win 55-40. The Trojans will hit the road to compete against Fort Madison tonight with the girls getting the night going at 6 pm.
Mt. Pleasant will face off against Burlington on the road tonight with game one at 6 pm. KILJ 105.5 FM, kilj.com, will be on the call with the pregame show at 5:45 pm.
Winfield-Mt. Union will tango with Hillcrest Academy tonight with the boys playing at 7:30 pm, following the girls’ game.
Columbus will take on Highland tonight with the girls’ teams tipping-off at 6 pm.
Wapello will venture to Lone Tree tonight with a 6 pm start time.
Danville will compete against Central Lee tonight at home with game time at 6 pm.
WACO will stay on the road tonight for a showdown against Louisa-Muscatine with the girls’ tipping-off the night at 6 pm.
West Burlington will face off against Holy Trinity Catholic on the road with the girls’ starting off the night at 6 pm tonight.
Van Buren County will travel to Mediapolis tonight for a doubleheader scheduled to start at 6 pm.
High School Wrestling
The Van Buren County boys’ team lost to Highland in their dual last night 42-34. Leo Jirak picked up a win by major decision, while Carver Goehring and Jackson Meek picked up wins by fall.
Both Fairfield teams celebrated their senior night last night with a triangular as the boys’ team downed Ottumwa 41-36 but fell to their conference rival, Fort Madison, 42-41. Cason Miller, Calvin McClain, Dain Burkhart, Dre Smithburg, Cael McCabe, and Zandrik Allsion helped the Trojans by defeating both of their opponents.
The Fairfield girls’ team hosted a triangular last night and fell to the two guests: Fort Madison 45-24 and Ottumwa 72-12. Alyia Abbott pinned Ottumwa’s Angel Herman, while Samantha Lyons collected a win by fall against Mady Emmett of Fort Madison.
The Fairfield girls’ team will face off against Mt. Pleasant on January 23rd.
Both Mt. Pleasant teams dueled Washington last night and the boys’ team flattened the Demons 51-27. Keegan Birdsell, Payton Walker, Levi Evans, Cruz Aguilar, Lane Beckler, and Kolbein Otsby picked up wins by fall. Ramzy Davis took his match by technical fall and Landon Beckler won his match by major decision.
The girls’ team followed suit with a 27-12 victory. Zenlynn Lee narrowly defeated Peggy Miller by a 1-0 decision, while Paris Phosy won her match by fall.
The Wapello boys’ team competed in a triangular last night against Louisa-Muscatine and Mediapolis and split the night, defeating the Bulldogs 37-33 and losing to the Falcons 37-36. Carter Ball and Jaime Prado each won both of their matches for Wapello.
Mediapolis evened up everyone’s score with a 44-30 win over the Falcons. Mason Johnson and Lane Rigdon swept the night for the Bulldogs.
The WACO boys’ team hosted a double dual against Columbus/Winfield-Mt. Union and New London last night and the Wildcats swept the night, defeating New London 48-35 and WACO 59-17. Kason Dopler was the lone wrestler to win both of his matches last night for the Wildcats.
WACO took down New London 48-34 to finish the night 1-1 as Louden Huisenga finished the night undefeated. New London had Kane Forseen, Tucker Syfert, and Corbin Jacobs-Jewell each finish 2-0 for the night.
The WACO boys’ team will host their invitational tomorrow with New London, Mt. Pleasant, Mediapolis, and Wapello all participating.
The Columbus/Winfield-Mt. Union, Fairfield, and Van Buren County boys’ teams will make the trip to Centerville tomorrow for the Big Red Invite.
The Burlington Notre Dame boys’ team laid the smackdown on Pekin and Lone Tree last night, shutting out both teams and accumulating 84 points against the Panthers and 83 points against the Lions. Kohen Dietzenbach was the lone wrestler to have two matches, winning both. The Nikes will compete in the Cascade Invitational tomorrow.
High School Bowling
Fairfield split their matchup against Burlington yesterday with the girls’ team narrowly falling 1,931-1,862, while the boys’ team stayed undefeated, winning 2,650-2,378. The girls were led by Emma Cass with 268 pins, while Dylan Adam collected 443 pins for the boys’ team. The Trojans will travel to the Ottumwa Invitational tomorrow, January 18th.
Mt. Pleasant will take on Fairfield on January 23rd at home.

The men’s basketball team will take on Indian Hills Community College tomorrow, January 18th, at 7 pm on the road.

The #2 Iowa State men’s team will play West Virginia tomorrow, January 18th, at 4 pm on the road.
The Iowa men’s team will stay on the west coast to compete against UCLA tonight at 8 pm.
The Iowa women’s team has dropped their last four contests after a close loss to Nebraska last night 87-84. Six Hawkeyes finished in double figures as Hannah Stuelke collected a double-double with 16 points and 16 rebounds. Iowa will travel to Oregon on Sunday, January 19th, with game time at 4 pm.
The Iowa State women’s team will face off against #20 West Virginia on Sunday at noon.
