New London earned their first season sweep over Danville since 2022 after taking down the Bears last night, 6-1. Kylea Schwenker did not need much help from her offense, as she carried a no-hitter through five innings before completing the game with 10 strikeouts. Tiger head coach Emily Parks talked about the effort after the game,
“Yes, I am so happy with how we’re playing. I mean, Kylea pitches a good game most days, but she was feeling it tonight, and she’s our pitcher. So we really came to have defense behind her and make the big plays and do all that, and it’s all coming together, which is really exciting to have her and then the defense behind it if they get a hit or whatever.”
Quin Smith did supply some power at the plate, launching a solo home run in the first inning before adding two more RBIs with a single in the third inning. Coach Parks noted that Smith has been all over the ball this season,
“She’s had a hot bat most of the season, so I just hope it continues through the rest of the season and the postseason. But she has the fastest hands of anyone I’ve seen, and when she connects, it goes. We have to tell her sometimes, just swing to contact, it’ll go. You have the fast hands. But yeah, she’s on it most days, so that’s all we can really ask of her.”
Danville’s Jenna Hill tabbed the lone RBI for the Bears.
