High School Baseball

Mt. Pleasant will face off against Fort Madison tonight in a doubleheader on the road.

New London will take on Central Lee tonight.

Van Buren County defeated North Mahaska 13-0 over the weekend. The Warriors take on Cardinal tomorrow, June 27th.

Mediapolis will face off against Clear Lake on June 29th at the Mt. Mercy Alumni Coaches Classic.

Winfield-Mt. Union will compete against Burlington Notre Dame on June 28th.

Danville will face off against Sigourney in the first round of the postseason on July 1st.

In Southeast conference (SEC) play, Keokuk will take on Fairfield and Burlington will square off against Washington tonight.

High School Softball

Mt. Pleasant will travel to take on Fort Madison tonight in a doubleheader matchup. KILJ will be on the call with pregame at 5:15 pm.

Danville will face off against New London tomorrow, June 27th.

New London will take on Central Lee today.

Van Buren County will compete against Cardinal tomorrow.

Holy Trinity Catholic will face off against Lone Tree tonight.

In SEC games, Burlington will take on Washington and Keokuk will face off against Fairfield today.

High School Postseason Softball

The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union released the postseason brackets for all the classifications and here’s the matchups for our local teams.

In Class 1A Region 8, New London will travel to face off against Holy Trinity Catholic and Wapello will host Winfield-Mt. Union with both games taking place on June 30th at 7 pm.

In Class 2A Region 7, Van Buren County earned a first-round bye. The Warriors will take on the winner between Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont and Pella Christian on July 5th at 7 pm at home.

In Class 2A Region 8, Danville will travel to take on Durant at 7 pm on June 30th. Mediapolis will face off against Louisa-Muscatine on the road on July 5th at 7 pm.

Central Lee and Washington will square off on July 6th at Washington and West Burlington will host Fairfield on July 6th with both games taking place at 7 pm for Class 3A Region 8.

In Class 4A Region 6, Mt. Pleasant and Keokuk will compete in a conference matchup at Joyce Park on July 6th at 7 pm. Knoxville will host Fort Madison with the winner taking on Burlington at Burlington.

Mt. Pleasant Cross Country

On Mondays and Wednesdays, runs will begin at the Old Threshers Museum Theatre at 6:30 am.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays, runs will start at 7 pm at Saunders Park by the swimming pool.

Iowa High School Athletic Association

The IHSAA released the answers to their survey over the weekend with these results being the highlights. “Family Week” was supported by 94% of the respondents. 74% of respondents voted to continue letting the IHSAA create the football regular season schedule. Baseball is permitted 40 regular season games, but 83% of respondents want to lower the permitted number of games with the most popular choice being 30 games.

Prospect League

The Burlington Bees squeaked by the Pistol Shrimp on Saturday in the 10th inning, 8-7, but fell to the O’Fallon Hoots, 11-2, yesterday. Keanu Spenser smacked a home run and tallied 3 RBIs, while Mason Schwalbach also cleared the fence and notched 2 RBIs. Brandon Bickford had the game winning sacrifice fly.

Tanner Holland picked up both RBIs against the Hoots with one of the runs coming off a home run. The Bees will take on the Hoots at home tonight in a rematch.

The Clinton LumberKings split their weekend games as they lost to the Lafayette Aviators 5-2 on Saturday and defeated the Quincy Gems 18-8 in an offensive showcase.

Against the Aviators, Tate Gillen doubled and picked up an RBI for the LumberKings. Gavin Brzozowski and Max Holy each hammered a home run against the Gems with Holy finishing with 4 RBIs in the contest. The LumberKings will face off against the Gems tonight at home.
