High School Baseball
Mt. Pleasant rallied back from a 14-1 loss in game one of their doubleheader with Burlington last night to win game two, 14-10. Kaden Schadt had the lone RBI in game one, while Jaymisen Rich claimed two hits and five RBIs in game two. Grayson Lowery picked up the win on the mound and added two RBIs to his season total. The Panthers will stay at home for a showdown against West Burlington at 7 pm tonight.
Burlington Notre Dame demolished Louisa-Muscatine last night, 17-3. The Nikes will hit the road tonight for a matchup against Fort Madison with first pitch at 7 pm.
Winfield-Mt. Union dropped a tight one to Hillcrest Academy last night, 2-1. The Wolves will face off against Lone Tree tonight at 5 pm on the road.
Fairfield mopped up Keokuk last night, winning 16-1 and 15-0 for their road doubleheader. Archer Kreuter knocked two triples for three RBIs in game two. The Trojans will travel to Clear Creek Amana tonight at 7 pm.
Danville collected their first win of the season last night, defeating Wapello 3-2. Kinnick Richenberger tabbed an RBI for Wapello. Central Lee will face off against Danville tonight at 6 pm.
Wapello will compete against Highland in a road doubleheader tonight with game one at 5 pm.
Washington split their doubleheader with Fort Madison last night, winning game one, 11-1, and falling in game two, 12-1. The Demons will take on Fairfield at home tomorrow July 1st, at 5:30 pm.
Mediapolis will look to knock off Sigourney tonight at 7:30 pm at home.
Van Buren County will travel to Davis County tomorrow at 7 pm.
High School Softball
Mt. Pleasant was swept by Burlington last night, 11-0 in game one and 9-1 in game two. West Burlington/Notre Dame will fly to Mt. Pleasant tonight with first pitch at 7 pm. KILJ 105.5 FM, kilj.com, will be on the call with the pregame show at 6:45 pm.
Wapello walked away with a sweep of WACO last night, taking game one, 13-3, and snatching game two, 13-4. Macey Kuntz finished the evening with five RBIs for the Arrows. The Warriors will travel to Holy Trinity Catholic tonight at 7 pm.
Wapello will tangle with Highland tonight at 5 pm on the road.
Holy Trinity Catholic walloped Central Lee last night, 7-1. The Hawks will compete against Van Buren County tonight at 6:45 pm on the road.
Washington snuck past Fort Madison in both games of their doubleheader last night, narrowly winning 3-1 and 9-8 over the Bloodhounds. The Demons will travel to Mid-Prairie tomorrow, July 1st, at 7 pm.
Columbus was steamrolled by Louisa-Muscatine last night in a road doubleheader, getting outscored 34 to 0 over the two games. The Wildcats will welcome Pekin tonight at 7 pm.
Fairfield picked up a pair of victories over Keokuk last night, winning game one, 13-2, and taking game two, 7-5. Aubrey Ryan finished the evening with three RBIs, while Leah Helmick slashed a pair of doubles in game two for two RBIs. The Trojans will make the trip to Burlington on Thursday, July 2nd, at 7:30 pm.
Danville will hit the road to play Keokuk tonight at 5:30 pm.
Mediapolis will stay at home for a contest against Highland at 7 pm tomorrow.
Mt. Pleasant Cross Country
Summer runs are underway for the Mt. Pleasant Cross Country team. These runs are optional but a great way to run with others and get in shape for the fall season. The runs are available to anyone entering 7th through 12th grades. Coaches may not be present at every run, as they are often led by upperclassmen.
On Mondays, the runs will take place at 6:30 am at the Old Threshers Museum Theatre. Wednesdays will be high school speed day at 7 am at Mapleleaf and Tuesdays and Thursdays will take place at Saunders Park by the swimming pool at 7 pm.
The runs will continue through the middle of August until the Mt. Pleasant Cross County camp. If you have any questions, you can contact Coach Lyle Murray at 319-850-0867.
Prospect League
The Burlington Bees will make the trip to play the Illinois Valley Pistol Shrimp tonight at 6:35 pm.
The Clinton LumberKings will host the Normal CornBelters tonight at 6:30 pm.
Iowa Football
The University of Iowa had three Hawkeyes placed on the Athlon preseason All-America list in offensive linemen Kade Pieper and Trevor Lauck, along with defensive back Zach Lutmer.
Pieper was placed on the First Team, as he started all 13 games at guard last year and was named Third-Team All-Big Ten. Also a part of the Joe Moore Award winning offensive line last year was Lauck, who earned a spot on the All-Big Ten Third Team.
Lutmer earned defensive MVP honors and was Second Team All-Big Ten after leading the squad with three interceptions, ranked second on the team with six pass deflections, and added 71 tackles, including 5.5 tackles for loss.
