High School Football
For 8-player, Bishop Garrigan finished the season on a 12-game win streak to complete their Cinderella story, taking down Bedford 39-30 yesterday for their second state championship in school history. Tate Foertsch finished with 191 total yards and three touchdowns in the winning effort.
In Class A, West Hancock outscored Woodbury Central 12 to 0 in the fourth quarter to win their fifth state championship, 30-28. The Eagles controlled the ball in the fourth quarter with a game winning 15 play, 71 yard touchdown drive that erased 7 minutes and 13 seconds off the clock. Mitchell Smith finished the game with two total touchdowns.
Moved up a class to 1A? Does not matter for Grundy Center as they poured it on MFL MarMac yesterday, shutting the Bulldogs out 42-0. Colin Gordon threw for 242 yards and two scores, while adding another two touchdowns on the ground. This is the Spartans fifth state championship.
For Class 4A, Lewis Central captured the state championship over Western Dubuque last night 40-21. Brady Hetzel threw for 325 yards and four touchdowns in the winning effort and added a fifth touchdown on the ground. The Titans secured their second championship in school history.
For the Class 2A championship, Central Lyon/George-Little Rock and Van Meter will compete today at 10 am.
For Class 3A, Williamsburg and Bishop Heelan will face off today at 1 pm for the championship.
Ankeny and Southeast Polk will compete for the Class 5A state championship tonight at 7 pm.
Girls’ High School Basketball
Mt. Pleasant will open their season with a road matchup against Pella on November 21st.
Mediapolis and Danville will compete on November 21st at 6 pm.
Winfield-Mt. Union will face off against New London tonight at home at 6 pm.
WACO will open up conference play against Pekin on November 21st in a road matchup.
Central Lee will host Winfield-Mt. Union tomorrow, November 18th.
Holy Trinity Catholic will travel to Keokuk to take on the Chiefs tomorrow at 1 pm.
High School Wrestling
The Mt. Pleasant and Columbus girls’ teams will be traveling to Wilton tomorrow, November 18th, for a tournament.
WACO’s girls’ team will compete in a tournament tomorrow at BGM.
Meet the Players Night
Mt. Pleasant hosted their winter sports Meet the Players night and introduced the cheer and dance teams, who performed their state routine, and the girls and boys teams of bowling, wrestling, and basketball.
The night concluded with three scrimmages: the JV boys team, the JV and Varsity girls’ teams, and the Varsity boys’ team. Head Coach Curt Watson discussed his team’s scrimmage in preparation of their season opener next Tuesday.
Head Coach Eric Rawson was happy to show off his team for the community, despite a couple dunk attempts rattling out.
College Football
Iowa State University will take on Texas tomorrow, November 18th, at home.
Iowa will host Illinois tomorrow at 2:30 pm.

College Basketball
The Iowa State men’s team’s next game will be at home in a matchup with Grambling State on November 19th at noon.
The Iowa State women’s team will host Southern on November 20th at 6:30 pm.
The #2 Iowa women’s team was upset by unranked Kansas State last night 65-58. The Hawkeyes struggled to cash in as they shot 36% from the floor and just 9.5% from three-point land. Caitlin Clark led the squad with 24 points. The Hawkeyes will attempt to bounce back against Drake on Sunday at 6 pm at home.
The Iowa men’s team will face off against Arkansa State tonight at 7 pm.
