High School Volleyball

The Mount Pleasant Panthers were the underdogs last night going against district foe, the Burlington Grayhounds, having lost all 5 matchups prior. However, the Panthers pulled off the upset and defeated the Grayhounds in an exhilarating 5 set match, winning by scores of 25-23, 18-25, 25-23, 10-25, and 15-7. Emma Starr had a great match, Andrea Lopreato helped tremendously in the third and fifth sets scoring the game winning point, and Jersey Beachy dominated from the service line in the fifth set. They will play Oskaloosa tomorrow at 7 pm on the road looking for another upset as Oskaloosa is ranked 12th in Class 4A.

Holy Trinity Catholic will play Sigourney, who defeated Seymour in straight sets, tonight, October 19th, at home at 7 pm.

The WACO Warriors will play North Mahaska tonight at home at 7 pm. KILJ will be covering the game with pregame at 6:45 pm.

Winfield-Mt. Union will host Wapello at home at 7 pm tonight.

Jeff Broeg will be covering the New London game tonight at 7 pm on the KILJ-AM station as they will be playing Iowa Valley.

Burlington Notre Dame plays Moravia tonight at 7 pm.

High School Football

The Mount Pleasant Panthers will travel to North Scott this Friday, October 21st, to play their season finale at 7:30 pm.

First round of the playoffs starts this week with WACO hosting Martensdale-St. Marys at 7 pm. KILJ will be on the call with pregame to start at 6:45.

The New London Tigers will be traveling to play Gladbrook-Reinbeck this Friday for their playoff game at 7 pm.

The Winfield-Mt. Union Wolves have the dubious distinction of playing Don Bosco, who is ranked 3rd in 8-man football, to start their playoff journey this Friday at 7 pm.

In Mt. Pleasant’s district, Fort Madison will be home against Burlington and Clinton will travel to play Iowa City Liberty, both games will start at 7:30 pm. Other area games, Fairfield celebrates senior night against Grinnell, Keokuk celebrates senior night against Solon, and Washington looks to send the seniors out on a win as they face off against West Burlington, all of these games scheduled to start at 7:30 pm.

Elementary Basketball Tournament

Iowa Wesleyan Athletics

The Tiger volleyball team celebrated senior night last night by having their own five set thriller with Stephens College. Unfortunately, it did not have a happy ending for Iowa Wesleyan as they fell 3 sets to 2 by scores of 13-25, 25-20, 23-25, 25-23, and 13-15. Madison Saia had a terrific game as she tallied 17 kills for the Tigers with Shea Scott and Emma Lincoln each getting 7 kills a piece. Mackenzie Springsteen led the Tigers in assists with 24 on the match. Their next game is Friday, October 21st, as they start a CAC Classic against Crowley’s Ridge College at 2 pm.

The Tiger football team will be back in action October 22nd as they travel to play Presentation College at 1 pm.

The women’s soccer team is 7-7 on the season and their next game will be Saturday, October 22nd, at Bellevue University at 5 pm.

The men’s soccer team will travel to play Graceland University Saturday, October 22nd, at 3 pm.
