High School Football

Mt. Pleasant will be back at Evans Field this Friday, September 15th, for a matchup against Burlington at 7:30 pm. KILJ will be on the call with the pregame show at 7:15 pm. 

In other Class 3A District 4 matchups, Washington will host Grinnell, Keokuk will travel to Fairfield, and Fort Madison and Williamsburg will clash in a battle of the unbeatens. 

Mediapolis will take on Albia this Friday. 

Columbus will take on Pekin at home this Friday at 7 pm. 

Central Lee will look to stay undefeated this Friday against Davis County.

Danville will host Louisa-Muscatine this Friday at 7 pm. 

New London will face off against Central City this Friday. 

WACO will look to get back in the win column this Friday against HLV. 

#2 Winfield-Mt. Union will look to make it a four game winning streak this Friday against Montezuma. 

High School Volleyball

Mt. Pleasant and Winfield-Mt. Union competed at the Wilton tournament over the weekend. The Panthers finished the weekend 1-3 and the Wolves finished in 3rd place with a 2-3 record. The Panthers lone win of the tournament was against Winfield-Mt. Union two sets to one by scores of: 21-23, 21-13, and 20-18. Mt. Pleasant fell to Mediapolis, Wilton, and Burlington in straight sets. 

Winfield-Mt. Union fell to Wilton and Burlington in straight sets. The Wolves picked up a win against Highland in straight sets 21-12 and 21-19. Additionally, Winfield-Mt. Union grabbed a win against Mediapolis two sets to one to finish in third place. Audrie Gipple tallied 31 kills with Aurey Meeker notching 43 assists over the span of the tournament. Both Mt. Pleasant and Winfield-Mt. Union will play tomorrow, September 12th, with the Panthers at home against Burlington and the Wolves taking on Highland on the road. 

Holy Trinity Catholic will take on Mediapolis tomorrow. 

WACO will face off against Pekin on September 14th. 

Central Lee participated in the Williamsburg Tournament over the weekend and was swept by West Burlington, West Liberty, and Fairfield in straight sets. Taylor Jones had five kills against West Burlington and West Liberty. The Hawks will compete at the Holy Trinity Catholic Classic on September 18th.

Danville will face off against West Burlington at home tomorrow. 

Van Buren County’s next match will be tomorrow at New London. 

Cross Country

Winfield-Mt. Union and Van Buren County will run at Central Lee’s Invitational tomorrow, September 12th. 

Danville will run at the Oskaloosa Invitational tomorrow.

Mt. Pleasant’s next meet will be the Fort Madison Invitational on September 14th. 

College Football

The University of Iowa took home the Cy-Hawk trophy in a hard fought 20-13 defensive slugfest over the weekend to improve to 2-0 on the season. Sebastian Castro snatched a 30 yard pick six for the Hawkeyes. The University of Iowa will face off against Western Michigan on Saturday, September 16th.

Kirk Ferentz’s 200th career win as the Head Coach of the Hawkeyes also brought them back into the top 25 at the #25 slot.

Iowa State University will attempt to get back in the win column this Saturday against Ohio at 11 am. 

For the Hawkeye broadcast, tune into KILJ 105.5 FM and the Cyclone broadcast will be on 98.5 FM and AM 1130.
