High School Football

Mt. Pleasant will take on Burlington on the road on Friday, September 20th, at 7:30 pm. KILJ 105.5 FM, kilj.com, will be on the call with the pregame show at 7:15 pm.

West Burlington/Notre Dame will host Mid-Prairie at 7:30 pm on Friday. 

WACO will hit the road to face off against HLV on Friday at 7 pm.

Winfield-Mt. Union will square off against Montezuma on Friday at home at 7 pm. 

New London will travel to Central City on Friday at 7 pm.

Fairfield will play Keokuk on Friday at 7:30 pm on the road. 

Danville will take on Louisa-Muscatine on Friday at 7 pm on the road. 

Van Buren County will look for their first victory against Wapello on Friday at 7 pm on the road. 

Central Lee will compete against Davis County on Friday at 7:30 pm on the road. 

Mediapolis will travel to Albia on Friday at 7:30 pm. 

Columbus will attempt to get back in the win column on Friday at 7 pm against Pekin.

High School Volleyball

Mediapolis and Mt. Pleasant made the trip to Wilton for a tournament over the weekend and the host team demolished the competition, going 5-0 and not dropping a set. Here’s how the Bulldogs and Panthers weekend went. 

Mediapolis finished 2-3 for the weekend, with losses to Burlington (21-16, 21-10) and Wilton (21-17, 21-9) in straight sets and a narrow third set loss to Highland (13-21, 21-11, 14-16). The Bulldogs picked up a sweep over Mt. Pleasant 21-8 and 21-15 before defeating Prince of Peace in the third set 15-6. Bryn Wright collected 54 assists for the Bulldogs and Josie Hutcheson led the team with 19 kills over the course of the tournament. 

Mt. Pleasant picked up sweeps over Highland 21-16 and 21-10 and Prince of Peace 21-16 and 21-13; but, lost in straight sets to Wilton (21-9, 21-12) and SEC foe Burlington (21-19, 21-10). 

Mediapolis will travel to take on Holy Trinity Catholic tomorrow, September 17th, at 7 pm.

Mt. Pleasant will get a rematch against Burlington on the road tomorrow at 7:15 pm.

West Burlington and Fairfield took a road trip to Williamsburg for a tournament over the weekend and the Falcons fought their way through the consolation bracket to claim 3rd place.

West Burlington finished second in their bracket after defeating Des Moines Lincoln (21-4, 21-14) and Columbus (21-11, 21-7) in straight sets before losing to Williamsburg in a tough third set 15-12. Beckman Catholic proved their toughness, cruising to a sweep, 21-13 and 21-9, setting up a rematch against the Raiders. Flipping the script, the Falcons soared right by for the bronze 21-18 and 21-10. Taryn Snodgrass grabbed 99 assists, while the tag team of Brenna Beggs and Madelyn Hamelton collected 27 and 31 kills, respectively. Additionally, Jayonna Hiley tabbed her 500th career dig and five aces over the course of the tournament. 

Fairfield finished the weekend 3-2 with losses to West Liberty (21-14, 21-7) and Beckman Catholic (21-11, 21-14) in straight sets, while sweeping Centerville twice and taking a three set thriller against Des Moines Lincoln (18-21, 21-9, 15-6). 

Van Buren County will face off against West Burlington tomorrow at 7:30 pm on the road. 

Fairfield will compete against Washington tomorrow at home at 7:15 pm. 

Winfield-Mt. Union will travel to Wapello tomorrow at 7:30 pm.

WACO will look to get back on track tomorrow at 7:30 pm against Columbus at home.

Burlington Notre Dame will compete against Central Lee on the road at 7:30 pm tomorrow.  

New London will square off against Holy Trinity Catholic on Thursday, September 19th, at 7:30 pm at home.

Danville will look to get back in the win column on Thursday against Burlington Notre Dame on the road at 7:30 pm.

High School Cross Country

Danville will run at Oskaloosa tomorrow, September 17th. 

Central Lee will host a meet tomorrow with Winfield-Mt. Union and Van Buren County making the trip. 

WACO and Wapello will run tomorrow at Knoll Ridge Country Club at 5:40 pm.

Mt. Pleasant, Mediapolis, Winfield-Mt. Union, Fairfield, New London, Van Buren County, Danville, Central Lee, and Holy Trinity Catholic will run at Rodeo Park Trail on Thursday, September 19th. 

Southeastern Community College

The volleyball team will host Northeast Community College on Wednesday, September 18th, at 7 pm. 

College Football

Iowa was in danger of facing an upset, trailing Troy 14 to 10 at halftime, but the Hawkeyes rushed to the tune of 284 yards and three scores to down the Trojans 38-21. Kaleb Johnson continued his dominant start to the season as he tabbed 173 yards and two touchdowns in the win. The Hawkeyes will start Big Ten play on Saturday, September 21st, at 6:30 pm against Minnesota. KILJ 105.5 FM will have the broadcast.

#20 Iowa State will host Arkansas State on Saturday at 1 pm. The call will be on KILJ 98.5 FM and AM 1130.
