High School Football
Mt. Pleasant had the tough task of taking on Washington for their Homecoming game and the Demons fed off that momentum to win 42-7. The Washington defense was suffocating last night allowing less than 30 total yards in the first half and 150 yards total in the game and forced one turnover. Kael Williams rushed for two Demon touchdowns in the contest.
Payton Walker rushed for the lone touchdown, his fourth of the season. Our Coach Bennett Player of the Game was Max Sloat for his defensive play and Head Coach John Bowlin talked about how impressed he was with his young players. The Panthers will stay on the road to take on Keokuk next Friday.
In other Class 3A District 4 matchups, Fort Madison came back from behind to defeat Keokuk 17-14 and Mt. Vernon’s defense stumped Assumption to win 24-7.
Fairfield had the dubious distinction of hosting the #1 team in Class 3A last night in Williamsburg and the Raiders handled business as they took down the Trojans 56-14.
Mediapolis dominated Mid-Prairie last night 38-7 to move to 4-2 on the season. The Bulldogs will host Davis County next Friday.
Columbus demolished Louisa-Muscatine last night 70-14. Columbus will hit the road to take on Van Buren County next Friday.
Central Lee fell to West Burlington-Notre Dame last night 27-0. The Hawks will take on Mid-Prairie next Friday.
Danville celebrated their Homecoming in style as the Bears handled Van Buren County 46-0 last night. Danville will take on Lisbon next Friday.
#10 WACO spoiled New London’s Homecoming last night by taking down the Tigers 67-8. The Warriors will face off against English Valleys next Friday.
New London will compete against Moravia next Friday.
#1 Winfield-Mt. Union has now scored at least 70 points in their last three games as the Wolves dominated Iowa Valley last night 76-14. Jake Edwards tossed four touchdown passes, while Cam Buffington rushed for 218 yards and two touchdowns. Winfield-Mt. Union will face off against Mormon Trail next Friday.
High School Volleyball
Mt. Pleasant will compete in the Northeast Volleyball Invitational today.
New London will host a tournament today.
Winfield-Mt. Union heads into the New London Tournament today with a 13-10 record.
WACO will travel to take on Winfield-Mt. Union on October 3rd at 7:30 pm.
#3 Holy Trinity Catholic will stay on the road to face off against Central Lee on October 3rd.
Van Buren County will take on Mediapolis on October 3rd.
Danville will face off against Lone Tree on October 2nd.
Cross Country
Mt. Pleasant, Mediapolis, and Danville will compete in a meet on October 2nd hosted by Hillcrest Academy.
The Southeast Iowa Super Conference (SEISC) meet will be run on October 5th.
College Football
The University of Iowa will be at home tonight to take on Michigan State at 6:30 pm.
Iowa State University faces off against Oklahoma tonight on the road at 6 pm.
