State Golf: Liechty 16th, New London 4th

KILJ — Mount Pleasant senior Elli Liechty finished tied for 16th at this week’s Class 3A State Golf Meet at River Valley Golf Course in Adel.

Liechty followed up a round one 91 with a 92 yesterday and tied with four other golfers for 16th.

She finished with two birdies on her scorecard over the weekend.

Eden Lorhbach of Gilbert was the state champion with a five-over two day score.

Washington’s Kiki Bruner finished second overall.

The Demons were crowned team state champions, they finished 28 strokes better than that of second-place Gilbert.

In 1A, New London’s Taylor Phillips finished 8th overall helping guide New London to a 4th place team finish.

Phillips came out of the gates hot on day two with an 81 — the fourth best mark on the second day.

Lynville-Sully’s Greenlee Smock was the state champion, carding back-to-back 77’s.

Danville’s Natalie Wilcox tied for 30th, after a round two 95.

New London’s other finishers included Sophie Malott (34th) while Saige Barron, Emma Nye and Hannah Ortberg all tied for 47th.
