High School Volleyball
The WACO Warriors defeated North Mahaska in straight sets last night by scores of 25-17, 25-14, and 25-13 as their offensive attacks got better as the game went on. Grace Coble was everywhere on the court leading the team in assists with Ellah Kissle, Katie Leichty, and Marie Farmer often being on the other end tallying the kills. Leichty was lights out serving in the third set, which allowed the Warriors to run away with the match. They will play Holy Trinity Catholic Monday, October 24th, at Holy Trinity Catholic at 7 pm.
Holy Trinity Catholic will have to defend their home court against the Warriors after defeating Sigourney in straight sets, 25-21, 25-9, and 25-17. The Crusaders did beat WACO earlier in the year 2 sets to 1 with Mary Kate Bendlage tallying 12 kills in the match.

New London defeated Iowa Valley in straight sets by scores of 25-9, 25-13, and 25-9 to move on to their Regional Semifinals. They will be at home to play Belle Plaine at 7 pm with Jeff Broeg on the call on KILJ 98.5 FM next Monday.
Winfield-Mt. Union defended their home court against Wapello last night winning in straight sets 25-20, 25-15, and 25-20. Bradie Buffington led the Wolves in kills with 13 followed by Melina Oepping with 8. Keely Malone paced the team with 23 assists. They will play Burlington Notre Dame as they handily defeated Moravia in straight sets with the closest score being 25-11. Burlington Notre Dame will host the game at 7 pm next Monday with KILJ on the call with pregame at 6:45.
The Mount Pleasant Panthers will play Oskaloosa tonight at 7 pm on the road looking for another upset as Oskaloosa is ranked 12th in Class 4A. KILJ will be on the call with pregame to start at 6:45.

High School Football
First round of the playoffs starts this week with WACO hosting Martensdale-St. Marys at 7 pm. The Warriors will be leaning on Simeon Reichenbach to lead the offensive rushing attack. KILJ will be on the call with pregame to start at 6:45.
The Mount Pleasant Panthers will play their season finale against North Scott on the road at 7:30 pm.
The New London Tigers will be traveling to play Gladbrook-Reinbeck this Friday for their playoff game at 7 pm.
The Winfield-Mt. Union Wolves have the dubious distinction of playing Don Bosco, who is ranked 3rd in 8-man football, to start their playoff journey this Friday at 7 pm.
In Mt. Pleasant’s district, Fort Madison will be home against Burlington and Clinton will travel to play Iowa City Liberty, both games will start at 7:30 pm. Other area games, Fairfield celebrates senior night against Grinnell, Keokuk celebrates senior night against Solon, and Washington looks to send the seniors out on a win as they face off against West Burlington, all of these games scheduled to start at 7:30 pm.

Elementary Basketball Tournament

Iowa Wesleyan Athletics
The men’s and women’s wrestling schedules have been released with October 21st marking the Iowa Wesleyan Wrestle-Offs with the first competition taking place November 5th at Simpson for both squads. December 7th will be the first home wrestling meet for the women’s team, while the men will have to wait until January 19th. February 18th will be the Heart of America Conference Championships for the men’s team, while February 25th will be the women’s conference championships.
Logan Lucas and Lily Garnsey each earned Continental Athletic Conference honors for Runner-of-the-Week. Lucas was the first Tiger since 1994 to break the 27 mark in the 8,000 meter race with a time of 26:56. This is his second Athlete-of-the-Week honor as a Tiger. Garnsey ran a lifetime best of 21:40 last week as she finished in 17th place at the Indian Hills Invitational. This is her second time winning the award as the Tigers swept it for the week.
The Tiger volleyball team’s next game is Friday, October 21st, as they start a CAC Classic against Crowley’s Ridge College at 2 pm.
The Tiger football team will be back in action October 22nd as they travel to play Presentation College at 1 pm.
The women’s soccer team is 7-7 on the season and their next game will be Saturday, October 22nd, at Bellevue University at 5 pm.
The men’s soccer team will travel to play Graceland University Saturday, October 22nd, at 3 pm.
