U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) reported that four Iowa airports, including the Burlington / Southeast Iowa Regional Airport, will receive a total of $15.75 million to modernize and expand terminal areas and infrastructure. The funding comes from the USDOT’s Airport Terminal Program. U. S. Senator Charles Grassley backed the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act which played a role in the awarding of the funding.
Iowans in the Des Moines, Cedar Rapids-Iowa City, Burlington, and Fort Dodge areas will benefit from the funding for much-needed airport improvement projects.
- Des Moines International Airport (DSM): $6 million to expand and reconstruct the existing passenger terminal, including up to four additional gates to increase energy efficiency and enhance the family travel experience.
- Cedar Rapids / Eastern Iowa Airport (CID): $6 million to improve the baggage handling system due to an increase in demand.
- Burlington / Southeast Iowa Regional Airport (BRL): $2.75 million to expand and reconstruct the terminal, including a hold room expansion and additional restrooms.
- Fort Dodge Regional Airport (FOD): $1 million to support terminal modernization, including an additional family restroom, a mother’s room and a holding area.
