A Batavia man faces charges following a high-speed pursuit Friday night in Fairfield.
Fairfield Police responded around 10:25 p.m. to a report of a black Jeep being driven erratically through the Jefferson County Health Center parking lot. The caller told police the vehicle nearly struck a pedestrian.
Officers later located the Jeep at Casey’s on Libertyville Road. Police attempted to contact the driver, but the vehicle allegedly left the area before fleeing west on Libertyville Road when an officer attempted a traffic stop.
Police allege the Jeep reached speeds of more than 90 mph in a posted 45-mph zone and committed several traffic violations. The pursuit ended after the vehicle left the roadway and struck a mailbox on Kale Boulevard.
Larry Boatright, 25, of Batavia, was taken into custody and transported to Jefferson County Health Center for an evaluation. After being medically cleared, Boatright was taken to the Jefferson County Jail.
Boatright is charged with eluding at speeds 25 mph or more over the limit and driving while barred. Both are aggravated misdemeanors.
Police also determined Boatright had active warrants from Jefferson and Van Buren counties involving allegations of first-degree harassment, stalking in violation of a no-contact order, failure to appear and possession of a controlled substance.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and Iowa Department of Corrections’ Eighth Judicial District Probation and Parole assisted Fairfield Police.
The charges are accusations, and Boatright is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
