Mount Pleasant’s Winfield Avenue Street Improvement Project is nearly 75% complete and remains well ahead of schedule despite significant rainfall during construction.
The first two stages—from Broadway Street to Lincoln Street—are nearly finished and have reopened to traffic. Some signs and barricades will remain while crews complete grading adjustments, pavement markings, lawn seeding and mailbox replacement.
Work from Lincoln Street to Palm Avenue is also substantially complete. Driveways have been replaced, restoring access for residents, while crews continue constructing the trail through that section.
Between Palm and Grand avenues, Kinney and Sons has completed installation of the new storm sewer system. Crews will next grade the street, install the granular base and prepare for concrete work.
Winfield Avenue remains closed between Palm and Grand avenues. The north Walmart entrance will also remain closed until Winfield Avenue reopens.
Businesses along the north side of that section must continue to be accessed from James Avenue using the temporary access road and driveways.
The City of Mount Pleasant says crews have completed nearly three-quarters of the project while using less than half of the construction time allowed under the contract. Residents and businesses with questions are asked to direct them to City Hall.
