High School Baseball
Mt. Pleasant fell to West Burlington last night, 13-3. Jaymisen Rich clobbered a double for two RBIs in the loss. The Panthers will travel to Fort Madison tomorrow, July 2nd, at 7 pm.
West Burlington will start their postseason journey at Davis County on Friday, July 3rd, at 5 pm against Albia.
Central Lee handled Danville last night, winning 23-3. The Hawks will have their senior night at 7 pm against Keokuk tonight.
Wapello fell to Highland last night, 9-0. Bryce Hazelett allowed just one hit and struck out eight in five innings of work for the Huskies. Wapello will get their rematch on Friday at 5 pm from Winegard Field in Burlington.
Winfield-Mt. Union smacked Lone Tree last night, 17-1. The Wolves will compete at Mid-Prairie against Louisa-Muscatine at 5 pm to start postseason play on Friday.
Mediapolis lost a heartbreaker to Sigourney last night, 1-0. The Bulldogs will look to right the ship tonight at home against Cascade with first pitch at 7 pm.
Burlington Notre Dame smothered Fort Madison last night, 21-2. The Nikes will host Danville for Substate 6 play on Friday at 7 pm.
Fairfield lost to Clear Creek Amana last night, 10-5. Washington will take on Fairfield at home tonight at 5:30 pm.
Van Buren County will travel to Davis County tonight at 7 pm.
New London will make the trip to Van Buren County at 7 pm on Friday for postseason play. KILJ 105.5 FM, kilj.com, will be on the call with the pregame show at 6:45 pm.
High School Softball
Mt. Pleasant scored seven runs in the 5th inning but West Burlington-Notre Dame notched the clutch hit, exiting with an 11-10 victory over the Panthers last night. Lacie Felkins led the Falcon bats, collecting a double and four RBIs in the winning effort. Ellie Freeman, Kya Heaton, and Linzy Striegel each had two RBIs for the Panthers. Mt. Pleasant head coach Curtis Bjork was happy to see his team bounce back after facing adversity early,
“Yeah, I mean, proud of the girls for competing. We were down early. You know, we were down three, four runs early and then had a big inning, you know, and clawed our way back and the girls fought and competed that inning to get back in that game and we’re ahead. And, you know, we competed all the way through, just came on the short end of that game.”

Holy Trinity Catholic dispatched WACO last night, 18-3. The Crusaders will tangle with Danville tonight at 7 pm at home.

Danville has won three games in a row after dismantling Keokuk last night, 13-2.
Central Lee battered Van Buren County last night, 19-5. Rayleigh Burden led the team with three RBIs and tossed six innings in the circle for the victory. Aida Troutman slashed a triple for an RBI in the losing effort. The Hawks will celebrate senior night against Keokuk tonight at 7 pm.
Van Buren County will face off against Centerville at home tonight at 7 pm, as the Warriors will celebrate their senior night.
Wapello fell to Highland last night, 9-1. The Arrows concluded the regular season with an 11-13 record.
Columbus dropped their contest to Pekin last night, 16-3. The Wildcats finished the regular season with a 1-24 record.
Washington will travel to Mid-Prairie tonight at 7 pm.
Mediapolis will stay at home for a contest against Highland at 7 pm tonight.
Fairfield will make the trip to Burlington tomorrow at 7:30 pm.
Mt. Pleasant Cross Country
Summer runs are underway for the Mt. Pleasant Cross Country team. These runs are optional but a great way to run with others and get in shape for the fall season. The runs are available to anyone entering 7th through 12th grades. Coaches may not be present at every run, as they are often led by upperclassmen.
On Mondays, the runs will take place at 6:30 am at the Old Threshers Museum Theatre. Wednesdays will be high school speed day at 7 am at Mapleleaf and Tuesdays and Thursdays will take place at Saunders Park by the swimming pool at 7 pm.
The runs will continue through the middle of August until the Mt. Pleasant Cross County camp. If you have any questions, you can contact Coach Lyle Murray at 319-850-0867.
Local Athletic Camps
Mt. Pleasant will be hosting their volleyball camps starting in late July at the high school gym. The youth camp for grades 3rd through 6th will run from July 20th through the 22nd from 5:30 to 7 pm. The camp cutoff date is July 15th.
The middle school camp for grades 7th and 8th and the high school camp for 9th through 12th graders will run August 3rd through the 5th with the middle school going from 4 to 5:30 pm and the high school to follow from 6 to 8 pm. The cutoff date is July 23rd.
All camps will cost $30, cash, per person with the camper getting a t-shirt.
Prospect League
The Burlington Bees leveled the Illinois Valley Pistol Shrimp last night, 20-10. Lucas Krebs led the team with five RBIs. The Bees will look to sweep a road doubleheader against the Pistol Shrimp tonight with game one at 4:35 pm.
The Clinton LumberKings lost to the Normal CornBelters last night, 8-5. The LumberKings will face off against the Decatur Bean Ballers tonight at 6:30 pm.
