Two Drivers Injured in Highway 63 Semi Crash

Two semi drivers were injured in a crash Wednesday afternoon that closed a portion of Highway 63 south of Ottumwa for nearly four hours.

Emergency crews responded shortly before 1:30 p.m. to a multiple-semi crash with entrapment in the 4000 block of Highway 63 South.

Hydraulic rescue equipment was used to free one driver from a vehicle. One driver was taken by ambulance to Ottumwa Regional Health Center, while the other was airlifted to Des Moines for treatment. The extent of their injuries has not been released.

Neither driver is an Iowa resident. Their names are being withheld at this time.

Highway 63 remained closed while crews treated those involved, investigated the crash and cleared the roadway. It reopened shortly after 5:20 p.m.

Multiple law enforcement, fire, medical, emergency management and transportation agencies assisted at the scene.
