Fairfield Woman Claims Big Prize In ‘$100,000 Mega Crossword’ Game

CLIVE, Iowa — A Jefferson County woman said she and her husband are planning a vacation after she won a $10,000 lottery prize.

Lori Luke, 62, of Fairfield, won the big prize in the Iowa Lottery’s “$100,000 Mega Crossword” scratch game. She purchased her winning ticket at BP, 302 E. School Ave. in Olds.

Luke scratched the ticket immediately after purchasing it and scanned it at the store’s self-checker, but didn’t believe her eyes when she saw the $10,000 prize.

“After a minute, I put it back in and it said $10,000,” Luke recalled with a laugh. “The cashiers came running over: ‘We want to see! We want to see!’ It was a pretty exciting time there.”

As her big win began to sink in, she called her husband, Rod, with the news.

“I got his voicemail so I had to sit and wait,” she said. “But then later, he calls: ‘You won me $10,000?’I said, ‘No, I won me $10,000!’”

Luke claimed her prize on Monday at the lottery’s Cedar Rapids regional office.
