HCHC Receives HFMA’s 2022 MAP Award for High Performance in Revenue Cycle

Henry County Health Center has been named as a recipient of the 2022 MAP Award for High Performance in Revenue Cycle, sponsored by the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA). As a national award winner, Henry County Health Center has met industry-standard revenue cycle benchmarks, implemented the patient-centered recommendations and best practices embodied in HFMA’s Healthcare Dollars & Sense® initiatives, and achieved outstanding patient satisfaction.

Award recipients are acknowledged as industry leaders and share proven strategies with their colleagues. The award was formally presented on June 26 during the HFMA Annual Conference in Denver, CO.

“The commitment and passion demonstrated by our staff is the reason that HCHC has received this award four times in the past five years. This year, HCHC was first place in the Critical Access Hospital (CAH) Category by a score of 10% more than the second place hospital. Until this year, HCHC was the only Critical Access Hospital in the nation to win this award multiple times. In 2022 there were only three Critical Access Hospitals who received the award, two from the state of Iowa. I am grateful for our staff and their dedication to sustaining this high level of work that directly benefits our patients and the health center,” explained Dave Muhs, HCHC Chief Financial Officer.

In 2009, HCHC was recognized in HFMA’s Patient Friendly Billing Project, receiving the High Performance in Revenue Cycle Award.  The award was based on a review of over 5,000 hospitals public reported data, and HCHC was identified as an organization with positive revenue cycle outcomes.  Of the 14 hospitals recognized, HCHC was the only Iowa Hospital and

the only Critical Access Hospital (CAH) in the nation.   HCHC won the award in 2013, with

HFMA recognizing only 10 organizations that year.  In 2018, HCHC was only one of two Critical Access Hospitals recognized that year and 2019, being the only CAH that year.  The MAP application not only includes financial indicators, but also patient satisfaction, process improvement, and price transparency.

“High-performing revenue cycles design business processes around the consumer’s needs,” said HFMA President and CEO Joseph J. Fifer, FHFMA, CPA. “Kudos to all the 2022 MAP Award winners for putting consumers first.”

Created by and for healthcare leaders, HFMA’s MAP initiative sets the standard for revenue cycle excellence in the healthcare industry. MAP is a comprehensive strategy that allows organizations to measure revenue cycle performance using the industry-standard MAP Keys; apply evidence-based strategies for improvement; and perform to the highest standards to improve financial results and patient satisfaction.
