The Henry County Historic Preservation Commission met Wednesday, May 20, at the Henry County Heritage Trust to discuss ongoing preservation projects and upcoming community events.
Commission members in attendance included Joel Garretson, Pat White, Jeff McPheron, Cathy McCoy, and Judy Rawson. During the meeting, commissioners reviewed and approved the agenda, previous meeting minutes, and the treasurer’s report.
Commissioner Pat White will represent the group at this year’s Iowa Preservation Summit in Ankeny June 2nd and 3rd. Attendance is required as part of the commission’s status as a Certified Local Government.
Members also discussed preparations for the opening of a local time capsule ahead of next month’s Fourth of July celebrations, with commissioners volunteering to assist during the event.
Work is continuing on a county historic sites guidebook, which will include photographs and maps identifying historic locations throughout Henry County. Commissioners noted that Print Group USA recently provided copies of edited text materials for the project.
The commission’s next meeting is scheduled for June 17th at 1 p.m. at the Henry County Heritage Trust. The public is welcome to attend.
