Republican Senate candidate Ashley Hinson visited Mount Pleasant Tuesday alongside Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks during a campaign event at the Mount Pleasant Golf and Country Club. The appearance came one week ahead of Iowa’s June 2 primary election, where both Hinson and Miller-Meeks face contested Republican races.
The RSVP-only gathering was initially open to individuals who had submitted reservations to attend. According to multiple attendees, several individuals who had RSVP’d and were initially allowed inside were later asked to leave before the candidates arrived after being identified as Democrats. Event organizers later described the gathering as a Republican-only event.
KILJ News was permitted to attend the event and requested comment following the appearance. Hinson’s campaign declined an interview request.
Miller-Meeks said she was pleased to return to Mount Pleasant and meet with local residents, voters, and supporters during the campaign stop.
