Henry County Sheriff’s Office Adds Free Narcan Dispenser to Lobby

The Henry County Sheriff’s Office has installed a free naloxone medication dispenser in its lobby, making the life-saving overdose reversal drug more accessible to the public.

Naloxone, commonly known by the brand name Narcan, can quickly reverse the effects of an opioid overdose and has become a critical tool in combating the ongoing opioid crisis.

Sheriff’s officials say the new dispenser was made possible through a partnership with the Henry County Opioid Prevention Alliance and Community Health Centers of Southeastern Iowa.

The sheriff’s office says the goal is to provide easy access to naloxone for anyone who may need it, helping save lives and improve emergency response in the community. Residents can stop by the Henry County Sheriff’s Office lobby to pick up the medication free of charge.

Midwest Old Threshers Looking for More Local Hosts Ahead of 2026 Reunion

Midwest Old Threshers is putting out the call for more local homeowners to join its In-Home Stay Program ahead of this year’s annual Reunion.

The organization says the program helps connect visitors coming to Mount Pleasant for the 2026 Midwest Old Threshers Reunion with local residents willing to open their homes for lodging. Officials say the need is growing, especially for homes with few steps, accessible entrances, or single-level living arrangements.

Midwest Old Threshers Public Relations and Marketing Director Grant Davidson says current host homes are filling quickly, while more visitors continue asking for places to stay during the five-day event.

The 2026 Reunion is scheduled for September 3rd through the 7th and will be part of the nationwide America 250 celebration. This year’s theme is “Where America’s Story Still Runs on Steam.” Thousands are expected to visit Mount Pleasant for steam engines, antique tractors, historic exhibits, live entertainment, and family-friendly attractions.

Anyone interested in becoming a host family or learning more about the In-Home Stay Program can contact Lori Shoultz at 309-791-7689.

More Severe Weather on the Way Before the Close of Spring

After a stretch of hot and humid weather, southeast Iowa is enjoying a much cooler start to the week. Temperatures in Mount Pleasant dipped into the upper 40s overnight, with a calm and sunny start to Monday morning. Highs today are expected to top out in the upper 70s, making for a comfortable break from the recent heat.

That cooler weather sticks around into Tuesday, with highs again in the upper 70s and only a slight chance of showers.

But don’t get too comfortable — the National Weather Service says storm chances ramp up Wednesday, with several rounds of thunderstorms possible throughout the day. The strongest storms are expected during the afternoon, bringing the potential for damaging winds over 60 miles per hour, hail up to golf-ball size, isolated flash flooding, and even a few tornadoes.

The severe threat is expected to ease by mid-evening as a cold front moves through.

Forecasters say now is the time to review your severe weather plan and make sure you have multiple ways to receive warnings.

Enjoy the break from the heat while it lasts — because Iowa weather may be gearing up for another wild Wednesday.

Groups interested in participating are encouraged to get involved and help make this year’s celebration one of the biggest yet.

In addition, reserved parking spots are now available for the Fourth of July festivities. A $25 donation will reserve one front-row parking spot and a picnic table. Those interested can message the Mount Pleasant Community Fourth of July Celebration Facebook page to reserve before spots are gone.
