Girls’ Track: Brumbaugh Breaks School Record, Panthers Finish Second at Conference Meet:
Mount Pleasant junior Jadan Brumbaugh threw 44 feet, 4 1/4 inches breaking Mary Wester’s school record as the Mount Pleasant girls’ track team finished second at yesterday’s conference track and field meet in Keokuk.
Brumbaugh, the Drake Relays champion, was nearly nine feet better than that of second place finisher Sydney McCarron of Keokuk.
Her teammates Grace Kelley and Kylee Coleman went back-to-back in the discuss with Kelley throwing 113 feet, 9 3/4 inches while Coleman hurled 103 feet, five inches.
Mount Pleasant was also victorious in two relays, the shuttle hurdle and 4×400.
Comprising the victorious shuttle hurdle team were Allie Westercamp, Jenna Gilmore, Josie Gilmore and Karysn Lamm. They ran 1:11.80.
The quartet on the 4×400 team who were crowned conference champions were Courtney Raub, Ralyn Seberg, Jeneva Dykstra and Kenna Lamm.
That group won by over five seconds with a time of 4:30.40.
Fairfield won the team race with 198 points, Mount Pleasant was second with 138.
Keokuk placed third with 72.5 points.
Boys’ Track: Mount Pleasant Fourth at Conference:
The Mount Pleasant boys’ track and field team crowned three individual conference champions as they finished fourth at yesterday’s conference track meet in Keokuk.
Sophomore Bryce Wilson ran a personal best in the 110m hurdles at 15.30 seconds to win the conference title by nearly a second and a half.
Coming in as the runner up was Jack Johnson who finished 16.60 seconds.
Cooper Pullis, a Drake Relays qualifier from a month ago, is now a conference champion.
Pullis won the shot put yesterday with a heave of 51 feet, 10 1/2 inches over four feet better than that of second place Ethan Deacon of Fort Madison.
With Wilson anchoring, the Panther shuttle hurdle relay team was also a first-place finisher.
Combining with Wilson was Mason MIlls, Morgan Van Nyhuis and Will Davidson.
They ran 1:06.90.
Washington claimed the conference title with 162 points, they were followed up by Fort Madison, Burlington and then Mount Pleasant.
Prep Track: Area Athletes Shine in Super Conference Meet:
Pekin and West Burlington-Notre Dame claimed girls’ titles, while Wapello and West Burlington-Notre Dame won on the boys’ side at yesterday’ Super Conference Track Meet in Wayland.
Mediapolis’ finished as runner up in North Division boys’ in large part because of the terrific display put on by sprinter Anthony Isley.
Isley ran 11.56 to win the 100m dash and was also crowned champion in the long jump with a leap of 20 feet, 6 1/2 inches.
Mediapolis’ 4×200 of Cole Lipper, Kadin Salek, Andrew McPherson and Josh Darbyshire were also conference title winners. They ran 1:35.31 for gold.
In South Division boys’, New London’s Carter Allen earned a shot put victory with a toss of 47 feet, six inches.
Kade Benjamin, known for his outstanding work on the basketball court, showed off his bunnies with a win in the high jump. Benjamin cleared 6-5 for first.
Also earning a conference championship for New London was their sprint medley team of Boden Pickle, Josh Catala, Torren Riley and Rylan Martin.
Seth Bailey was the champion in the 3200m run for the Tigers as well.
Bailey, a junior, ran 10:43.43 finishing 11 seconds better than second place Ty Carr of Danville.
In North Division girls’ action Winfield-Mount Union’s Jobey Malone continued her hot stretch winning the shot put with a toss of 36 feet, 10 1/4 inches.
Teammate Kyndal Townsley was the first place finisher in the hurdles, earning a conference title. Townsley ran 17.99 seconds for first.
West Burlington-Notre Dame dominated South Division competition, tallying up 212 points earning their eight conference championship in the last nine years.
WACO’s Molly McLaughlin won the 100 hurdles for host WACO, who finished third in the team race.
McLaughlin ran 17.31 seconds to saddle into first. The Lady Warrior shuttle hurdle team also claimed a first place finish.
Zoey Dennler, Katie Leicty, Maggie RInner and McLaughlin combined to run 1:14.86 for first place.
Girls’ Soccer: Panthers Put up Five Spot on Fort Madison:
Mount Pleasant scored five goals tying for their third highest of the season as they rolled past Fort Madison yesterday at East Lake Park.
The win kept Mount Pleasant’s undefeated season alive, they’re now 8-0.
Claire Pothitakis and Brandy Walker were the goal scorers for Fort Madison.
Mount Pleasant will be off until Monday when they travel to Washington to scrap with the Demons.
Kick is slated for 4:30 p.m.
Boys’ Soccer: Fort Madison Blanks Panthers:
Southeast Iowa’s Pele, Mitchell Pothitakis’ registered four goals and tallied five assists as No. 12 Fort Madison cruised past Mount Pleasant 10-nil yesterday at Baxter Sports Complex.
Xander Wellman added a hat track as well for the Bloodhounds, who improved to 11-1.
Mount Pleasant’s offense did not register a shot on goal.
The Panthers, now 2-10, will welcome in Washington on Monday at East Lake Park.
Boys’ Golf: Matheney Leads Mount Pleasant to Triangular Win:
Nick Matheney shot a three-over 39 to earn medalist honors as the Mount Pleasant boys’ golf team won a three team triangular over Fort Madison and Washington yesterday at Sheaffer Memorial Golf Course.
Brevin Wilson added a 42, while Reece Kempker carded a 43.
Both Reece Coffman and Ian Hake finished with 44’s.
Mount Pleasant ended ten strokes better than that of second place Washington, while Fort Madison finished third with 212 strokes.
Washington’s Roman Roth was medalist runner-up with a five-over 41.
