High School Basketball

New London will host Mt. Pleasant tonight with the girls leading off the night at 6 pm followed by the boys. 

Winfield-Mt. Union will take on Hillcrest Academy tonight with the girls scheduled to play at 6 pm. The Wolves boys’ head coach Klay Edwards knows the second half of the season will be a challenge. 

WACO will travel to face off against Louisa-Muscatine tonight with the girls game leading off the night at 6 pm.

The Holy Trinity Catholic boys’ team will host Fairfield tonight at 7:30 pm, while the girls’ team will take on Central Lee on January 5th in a road matchup. 

Van Buren County will compete against Columbus on January 4th at home with the girls playing at 6 pm.

Mediapolis will travel to take on Van Buren County on January 5th with the girls’ game scheduled for 6 pm.

Danville will face off against West Burlington on January 5th with the girls leading off the night at 6 pm in a road matchup. 

High School Wrestling

The WACO boys’ team will compete in a meet at Washington on January 4th.

The Columbus/Winfield-Mt. Union, Mt. Pleasant, and WACO girls’ teams will compete at a tournament on January 5th at Highland. 

The Mt. Pleasant boys’ teams will participate in a competition on January 4th at Sigourney.

The Columbus/Winfield-Mt. Union boys’ team will wrestle on January 6th at Highland in a tournament. 

New London will compete in a quad at Cascade on January 4th. 

High School Bowling

Mt. Pleasant will take on Washington on January 4th. 

College Football

#17 Iowa could not kickstart the offense against #21 Tennessee yesterday in the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl as the Hawkeyes fell 35-0. Joe Evans lived in the backfield as he totaled four sacks, while Jay Higgins led the Hawkeyes in tackles with 16 on the day, Higgins also collected a sack. Iowa finished the year with a 10-4 record with a 7-2 conference mark. 

College Basketball

The #4 Iowa women’s team will host Michigan State tonight at 8 pm. Tune in to KILJ 105.5 FM, kilj.com, to catch the game. 

The Iowa State women’s team will face off against Kansas tomorrow, January 3rd, at home at 6:30 pm. 

The Iowa State men’s team will travel to Oklahoma on Saturday, January 6th, at 5 pm. 

The Iowa men’s team will take on Wisconsin tonight at 6 pm on the road.

1966 – National Football League Championship, Lambeau Field, Green Bay: the Green Bay Packers beat the Cleveland Browns, 23-12; first NFL title game televised in color; last one played before Super Bowl era. 

1982 – “The Epic in Miami” The San Diego Chargers defeat the Miami Dolphins 41-38 in overtime in the AFC Divisional Playoff Game, a game that set numerous playoff scoring records along with the then-highest-scoring playoff game in NFL history.
