High School Postseason Baseball

In Class 1A Substate 5: District 9, Burlington Notre Dame will face off against Hillcrest Academy in the Substate Championship tonight. Coach Chiprez talked about the matchup against this familiar opponent. KILJ will be on the call with pregame at 6:45 pm.

In Class 2A Substate 5: District 10, Van Buren County will square off against Mid-Prairie today at 7 pm.

In Class 3A Substate 5, Mt. Pleasant fell to Marion last night 18-8. The Panthers started the scoring after a bases loaded 2 RBI double by Carter Amos and a balk scored Payton Walker to put the Panthers ahead 3 to 0 after the top of the 1st inning. Marion responded by scoring 5 runs. Mt. Pleasant then scored two runs off a double by Zerek Venghaus and a single by Jake Ensminger to tie the game at 5. The Wolves managed to put on 7 more runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning.

In the 4th inning, the Panthers scored three more runs with Walker tallying an RBI triple to bring the game closer, 12 to 8. Marion proceeded to score the next 6 runs to close out the game. Coach Broeker talked about how proud he was of his squad. The Panthers finished the season with a 13-12 record, something the seniors worked very hard to achieve. 

High School Postseason Softball

In Class 1A Region 8, Sigourney took down Twin Cedars 2-1 to advance to the state tournament. 

In Class 3A Region 8, West Burlington will compete against Assumption today for the Regional Championship at 7 pm.

In Class 4A Region 6, Burlington will take on Norwalk tonight at 7 pm for the Regional Championship.

Mt. Pleasant Cross Country

On Mondays and Wednesdays, runs will begin at the Old Threshers Museum Theatre at 6:30 am.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays, runs will start at 7 pm at Saunders Park by the swimming pool.

The runs will continue throughout the summer until the middle of August. If you have any questions, reach out to Coach Murray at 319-850-0867.

Prospect League

The Burlington Bees defeated the Normal CornBelters last night 7-3. Jaden Hackbarth finished the game 3 for 4 with 3 RBIs with Aiden McGee picking up the win on the mound allowing only 2 runs on 4 hits while striking out 4 batters. The Bees will travel to face off against the Lafayette Aviators tonight. 

The Clinton LumberKings will take on the CornBelters tonight on the road.
