In Class 2A Region 3, Danville’s third-inning heroics downed New London/Winfield-Mt. Union last night, 9-6. The Tigers struck for three runs in the first inning with the help of a Megan Lee RBI single. However, the Bears brought their bats to the third inning, as eight consecutive batters reached base safely with Aubrey Nahorny slugging a two-RBI double and Addison Waste slapping a two-RBI single highlighting a seven-run inning. Bears head coach Makenzie Morris was proud of her players’ resiliency,
“Oh, for sure. I think we came in with a lot of confidence, even though we’ve struggled against their pitcher in previous at-bats. I was really proud of the way that they stepped in the box, even though we’d struck out a few times and just wanted to hit and did it for their teammates, which is awesome.”
Elizabeth Jensen supplied the insurance with a two-run homer in the sixth inning. Coach Morris knew there was a high likelihood Jensen would be the one to come up with the big hit,
“She’s really come alive for us this year. I think she’s always our – whenever we’re having a rough inning, I feel like she always comes up to bat and just hits it hard wherever – somewhere she can get on base. That’s her fifth home run this year, so perfect timing for her.”
