High School Football

Mt. Pleasant will be back at Evans Field tomorrow, September 15th, for a matchup against Burlington at 7:30 pm. KILJ will be on the call with the pregame show at 7:15 pm. 

In other Class 3A District 4 matchups, Washington will host Grinnell, Keokuk will travel to Fairfield, and Fort Madison and Williamsburg will clash in a battle of the unbeatens. 

Mediapolis will take on Albia tomorrow. 

Columbus will take on Pekin at home tomorrow at 7 pm. 

Central Lee will look to stay undefeated tomorrow night against Davis County.

Danville will host Louisa-Muscatine tomorrow at 7 pm. 

New London has decided to forfeit this week’s contest against Central City due to injuries sustained last week resulting in a lack of depth. The Tigers plan on playing next week against HLV but the IHSAA requires that the school meet with their staff to show how and why they should be allowed to continue play. This meeting will occur next Monday at 10 am. 

WACO will look to get back in the win column tomorrow against HLV. 

#2 Winfield-Mt. Union will look to make it a four game winning streak this Saturday, September 16th, against Montezuma. 

High School Volleyball

Mt. Pleasant will be competing in the Ottumwa Invitational on Saturday, September 16th. 

Winfield-Mt. Union will host Lone Tree tonight.

Holy Trinity Catholic will travel to take on West Burlington today.

WACO will face off against Pekin tonight.

Central Lee will compete at the Holy Trinity Catholic Classic on September 18th.

Danville will face off against Keokuk today at home.

New London will take on Mediapolis tonight.

Van Buren County will host Burlington Notre Dame today.

Cross Country

Mt. Pleasant, Danville, Holy Trinity Catholic, Mediapolis, Van Buren County, and Winfield-Mt. Union will compete at the Fort Madison Invitational tonight.

Southeast Iowa Playbook

Winfield-Mt. Union seniors Cole Milks and Carter Loyd joined us on the Southeast Iowa Playbook yesterday. Cole stated that the team’s experience has allowed them to trust one another on the field. Carter is taking it one game at a time but the Wolves’ early success allows for some confidence. 

College Football

The University of Iowa will face off against Western Michigan on Saturday, September 16th.

Iowa State University will attempt to get back in the win column this Saturday against Ohio at 11 am. 

For the Hawkeye broadcast, tune into KILJ 105.5 FM and the Cyclone broadcast will be on 98.5 FM and AM 1130.

1975 – Milwaulkee Brewer Robin Yount breaks Mel Ott’s record, playing in 242 MLB games as a teen. He set the record at 243 games.

1986 – NFL Bears running back Walter Payton scores his 100th career rushing touchdown, and gains 177 yards, surpassing the 15,000-yard career plateau in a 13-10 overtime win over the visiting Philadelphia Eagles, at Soldier Field.

1994 – MLB team owners vote to cancel the remainder of 1994 season, as well as the World Series for only the second time in history, continuing a labor dispute with the Players Association.
