High School Volleyball

The Mt. Pleasant Panthers are back in action, tonight, September 20th, looking for their fifth win of the season as they travel to play Keokuk.

The Winfield-Mt. Union Wolves, WACO Warriors, Holy Trinity Catholic Crusaders, and New London Tigers will be competing in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference Tournament this Thursday, September 22nd. West Burlington and Burlington Notre Dame will also be competing, which makes four teams in the tournament ranked in the Iowa High School Volleyball rankings compiled by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union.

The Wolves are led by a trio of seniors in Keely Malone, who has 303 assists on the season and the school record for career assists, Melina Oepping, who leads the team in kills with 115, and Bradie Buffington, who is second on the team in kills with 87.

The Warriors count on Ellah Kissell and Grace Coble to get the job done as Kissell leads the team in kills with 96 and Coble leads the team with 244 assists and contributes another 56 kills to the stat line.

The Tigers lean on Eliana Manning and Natalie Burden, the latter leads the Tigers in kills with 104 and the former has racked up 224 assists through their nine matches.

Holy Trinity Catholic fresh off a win against Burlington in straight sets is led by the Bendlages as Mary Kate leads the team in kills with 126, while Anna has tallied 303 assists through 14 matches.

High School Football Recap

The Mt. Pleasant Panthers travel to play Fort Madison this Friday, September 23rd. The Panthers will lean on their passing attack to bring down the Bloodhounds talented defense that is allowing less than ten points a contest.

WACO celebrates Homecoming this week and they look to continue their perfect season when they face off against the New London Tigers at 7 pm this Friday. The Tigers are currently riding a three game win streak.

Winfield-Mt. Union will be celebrating Homecoming this week against a 3-1 Lone Tree team at 7 pm this Friday.

Washington will look to right the ship against Grinnell this Friday for their Homecoming game and Fairfield will look to spoil Keokuk’s Homecoming at 7:30 pm this Friday.

High School Cross Country

The Mt. Pleasant Invitational has been postponed from today to Thursday, September 22nd, due to the heat expected today.

Iowa Wesleyan Athletics

The Tigers volleyball team plays tonight, September 20th, at 7 pm as they face off against Faith Baptist Bible College on the road looking for their second win of the season.

The Tigers football team sees their second North Star Athletic Association player of the week for the season as Tyler Ball is named Special Teams Player of the Week. He tallied over 100 yards returning the football including a 65-yard punt return for a touchdown during the third quarter. Ball leads the Tigers in all-purpose yards and the Tigers lead the NSAA in punt return total yards and punt return yard average. They will travel to play Dakota St. University next Saturday, September 24th, at 4 pm.

The men’s soccer team get their first Continental Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week in Richard Arch as he was named Offensive Player of the Week. He has scored four goals in his last two matches, both wins for the Tigers. Both the men’s and women’s teams will play today against Harris-Stowe University. The women’s team will play at 1 pm and the men’s team will play at 3 pm.
