High School Football

Mt. Pleasant will hit the road to face off against Tipton tonight, at 7:30 pm. KILJ will be on the call with the pregame show at 7:15 pm.

In other Class 3A District 4 matchups, Burlington will host Keokuk, Washington will travel to Fairfield for a matchup against the Trojans, and Fort Madison will take on Centerville.

Mediapolis will host Regina Catholic tonight.

Columbus Community will look to make it a two game winning streak as the Wildcats take on Lisbon at home. 

Central Lee will hit the road to compete against Durant tonight as the Hawks look to move to 3-0 on the season. 

Van Buren County will travel to take on Highland at 7 pm.  

Danville will take on Pekin at 7 pm. 

New London will face off against Iowa Valley in a road matchup tonight at 7 pm. 

#2 Winfield-Mt. Union is set to host #5 WACO tonight in a top five 8-man matchup at 7 pm. Head Coach Chad Edeker will be counting on his starting quarterback Clayton Miller to continue executing the offense. 

High School Volleyball

Mt. Pleasant will compete at the Wilton tournament tomorrow, September 9th. 

Holy Trinity Catholic will take on Mediapolis on September 12th. 

It was a thriller for Winfield-Mt. Union’s home opener against Highland as the Wolves took set number one, 25-12. Highland responded by winning the next two sets 25-18 and 25-14. Nevertheless, the Wolves forced a fifth set and narrowly exited with the win 16-14. Audrie Gipple tallied 12 kills with Tessa Huston notching four aces for the Wolves. Winfield-Mt. Union will compete at the Wilton Tournament tomorrow. 

WACO will face off against Pekin on September 14th. 

Central Lee fell in straight sets to #13 West Burlington by scores of 25-13, 25-9, and 25-14. The Hawks will travel to Williamsburg tomorrow for a tournament. 

Haley Steffener’s 16 kills led Mediapolis to a sweep of Danville last night by the scores of 25-16, 25-23, and 25-14. Jaydon Wirt also had 23 assists for the Bulldogs. The Bears will face off against West Burlington at home on September 12th. 

Van Buren County’s next match will be September 12th at New London. 

Cross Country

The Fairfield Invitational ran yesterday and the Mediapolis girls’ team finished in first place for the Class 1A and 2A teams. Danville finished in fourth. Abby Arnett finished in 4th place for the Bears with a time of 24 minutes and 8 second. 

For the girls’ Class 3A and 4A run, Washington finished on top as a team and Mt. Pleasant took 8th place. Nelle Peterson was the top finisher for the Panthers in 30th place with a time of 24 minutes and 53 seconds, a lifetime best. Monroe James was next for the Panthers with a time of 25 minutes and 25 seconds. 

On the boys side for Class 1A and 2A, Mediapolis finished in first place, Van Buren County took 3rd place, Winfield-Mt. Union finished in 4th place, and Danville grabbed 5th place. Owen Schmidgall had the best finish of the meet with a time of 16 minutes and 53 seconds for the Bulldogs. Lincoln Bainbridge finished in 3rd place for the Warriors. The Wolves best finisher was Kohlby Newsom in 4th place. Lastly, Danville was led by Jackson Shacklett’s 2nd place finish. 

For the boys Class 3A and 4A run, Washington finished on top with Mt. Pleasant taking 3rd place. Ben Carthey grabbed 4th place for the Panthers with a time of 17 minutes and 26 seconds. Jude Dykstra was right behind him with a time of 17 minutes and 40 seconds. ,

Winfield-Mt. Union and Van Buren County will run at Central Lee’s Invitational on September 12th. 

Danville will run at the Oskaloosa Invitational on September 12th. 

Mt. Pleasant’s next meet will be the Fort Madison Invitational on September 14th. 

College Football

The University of Iowa travels to Ames tomorrow, September 9th, to take on Iowa State University with kickoff scheduled for 2:30 pm.
